The number of homeless students in California is up nearly 10 percent
0:04
but the reasons why may not be what you think. The state's Department of Education says there are more than 230,000 homeless students in
0:14
California. That's up from the more than 210,000 the year before and the 187,000 the year before
0:22
that. Now, part of the increase could be due to a bill that passed in 2021 aimed at helping
0:28
educators see the signs of homelessness. That bill also required schools to designate liaisons
0:34
making sure students can receive support services. Another reason for the increase could be the
0:39
ongoing homeless crisis in the state. Nearly 25 percent of all homeless people in America
0:45
live in California, and that number went up three percent in the last year. For Straight Arrow News
