American brands like Harley-Davidson could face retaliation from Trump's tariffs

On Wednesday, the United States will implement a new round of tariffs

But how the rest of the world reacts is what's concerning some American companies

As you are likely aware, the EU has scheduled a devastating total tariff of 56% for Harley-Davidson motorcycles

meaning 50 percentage points is retaliatory tariff plus the base 6 percentage points import duty

irrespective of the place of their manufacture Root testified with those tariffs and other taxes this motorcycle the Harley Road glide will cost in Denmark compared to in the United States

This isn't the first time the motorcycle company has fallen victim to tariffs

In 2018, the EU imposed a 25% duty, specifically on the bikes during a previous tariff war

Then the company absorbed the 166,000, million cost instead of increasing European retail prices

Root reminded the Congressional Committee that foreign bikes currently imported into the United

States receive a 2.4% tariff at most and wants to see more reciprocal penalties

My ask here today is a simple one, and that is fairness. It is very clear that Harley Davidson is being discriminated against and politically targeted

by the EU and Canada. Moreover, competitor brands should not be allowed to take advantage of

low-cost manufacturing and preferential import duty when accessing the U.S. market. We reached out to the iconic American brand and have not yet heard back on how they would deal

with the EU penalties. Years ago, they ate the cost, but also shifted some production out of the U.S
