Virtual Fabric is a feature that helps to virtualize a physical SAN fabric into multiple and isolated SAN fabrics. After enabling virtual fabrics you can create Logical Switch and Logical Fabric. Logical Switch is a virtual entity over a physical switch, with a unique FID and one or more physical FC ports assigned to it. Once Virtual Fabric is enabled a default logical switch is created automatically. All FC ports in a particular switch are a part of the default Logical switch. The default logical Switch has an FID 128. A group of logical switches having the same FID is called Logical Fabric. A logical fabric is an isolated virtual entity and all connected devices can communicate within themselves. Communication between Logical switches happens via a base switch. Each chassis can have only one Base switch. The base switches are connected over a special ISL link called extended ISL (XISL). Base switches cannot have F_port. You must configure each logical switch to use XISL.
