Hey coach, Matt, man, you must remember Blue
0:02
Hi, Matt. Congrats on the win. Of course, giving up six goals in the last two games, you bounced back today with the
0:07
second clincher of the season and you kind of neutralized a strong Philadelphia team. Just talk about how important was it to bounce back and also end the losing skid as well
0:14
Thank you. Very important, obviously. I said to my voices, now this is the response I already anticipated for last week going into
0:23
the game of Minnesota. We were switched on from the start today
0:30
ready for a fight, played when necessary. I think midfield, the change worked out quite good today
0:37
with Johnny Shore back in the starting XI. And as you say, a tough side to play, Philly
0:46
but the guys handled themselves quite well, especially looking at the games where we came from
0:52
Go with Justin. Hey, Coach. Justin Egan, the outfield. Can you talk a little bit about how you wanted to handle Philly's press
1:00
We saw a lot of balls over the top and quick restarts
1:05
Yeah, we were trying to find a combination of both. They play on the front foot with a lot of energy going forward, pressing forward
1:13
So we knew there were two, basically two choices. Either you use a small window in order to get that free man on the ball
1:21
which we managed to do a few times in the first half
1:26
and a few times in the second half. But you can also play over the top and get the second ball
1:30
and then make them move from left to right. And that's what we did quite well over two periods
1:37
However, especially in the first half, whenever we got that second ball, found the free man
1:43
we didn't expose their weakness enough. We kept the ball on the same side
1:48
and gave them an extra opportunity to get a new jewel so that is something that we'll have to
1:53
address and keep working on but a strong pressing side like Philly is
1:57
like I said, two choices use a small window or go over the top
2:01
and make sure you play second ball Alec? Hey coach, bulletproof win
2:07
if I may say so something I just wanted to something I was thinking about watching the game Philly is a team that likes to send in a lot of crosses specifically and specifically from the left side through Kyle Wagner A lot of the build in the press and a lot of our build period felt like it came on the right side
2:24
Was that intentional, or was it just where they find a little bit more joy
2:28
That was the moment whenever they got the opportunity to switch sides
2:32
because we preferred in the first pressure to have them play over their left side
2:37
especially when they started to build low. It was an interesting situation because during halftime I had to address something that we anticipated if they didn't play over the top
2:51
They played with two sixes, and if they had the time and the space, they would find one of the two sixes if we didn't close the middle enough
2:59
So once they put it over the top and won the second ball, they could switch us from our left side to our right side, and that's when the crosses came in
3:07
but I think the guys handled themselves quite well because even though we blocked a few crosses
3:14
you have some jewels in the box, and that's where we stood up as big men
3:18
and defended the box quite well today. Scott? Hey, Coach, how are you
3:23
Scott Tripp from Stream Punk Soccer. Congrats on the three points. Thank you. Talk a little bit about the weather in this case here
3:28
how that affected the play, and your way of having to adjust to that
3:32
Thanks. the weather right yeah welcome to new york well no the weather is fine because if there's a little
3:45
rain it makes the pitch go a little faster as well so that's that's a good thing however i was told
3:51
just now that the pitch has been adapted to the football pitch since thursday maybe or so um so
3:58
So that is something that you have to anticipate and deal with, obviously. But weather-wise, there was no problem
4:06
One of my boys said, going out, we have to be ready for a dogfight. The weather was also that type of weather
4:13
And the reaction and the response of the team was quite good as expected
4:19
We'll go with Shane, followed by Andrew. Hey coach, Shane O'Brien with A&M New York. Hi, Shane
4:24
Augustine, I had his first start since the first game of the season. Can you explain your thinking behind that
4:28
Was that something specific for Philadelphia Had quite an influence on the game from the left side Yeah Albu played a good match and I very happy for him You mentioned he had a first start in Miami away
4:41
He did really well in that game as well. Had a strong pre-season, but unfortunately, as you guys know
4:48
he missed one moment when he was too late and the other guys stepped up
4:52
And the team did quite well in that phase of the league. I'm also a coach that gives opportunities to guys
4:59
so even though the wingers were not always switched on well enough
5:04
the starting position didn't go to Agu now the moment was there
5:10
because Juli was not in his best shape in the past few games
5:14
so then the other guys have to step up and Agu is one of them and I'm totally on board when we say to each other
5:22
Ojeda played a really good match today So I'm very happy for him, and hopefully he can continue this
5:28
But it wasn't based on tactics or strategy looking at Philly. Hi, Coach. I'm Andrew Lee with Hudson River Blue
5:35
You started Justin Hack and Thiago Martins in centre-back tonight. You've had to sort of reshuffle the back line a lot early in the season
5:42
due to injuries, actions, things like that. Are you looking to find a consistent group that you sort of rely on
5:50
and sort of roll with consistently in your defence? or is it, I know you've praised sort of the ability for Justin to play in the midfield
5:57
and central defense, so do you expect him to keep moving back and forth
6:01
or are you kind of looking to figure out your perfect combination in the back? Well, the perfect combination is having a right-footed player on the right side
6:10
and a left-footed player on the left side. That's always easier to play, good possession or play
6:15
However, you mentioned Justin and what he can add to the team. Today, again, he was strong in the air
6:22
He was strong on the ball, even though he's right-footed. And he gives us a lot of options playing from the back
6:30
because he's that comfortable on the ball as well, very calm and composed
6:35
But it's basically making sure they keep high standards and a high level
6:41
And Burke, obviously, is a player who is also competitive and wants to play
6:46
Thiago missed out on preseason is one of our top players in the defense Fullbacks have been quite stable throughout the first seven eight games
6:57
So that is the position that I'm looking at, but also looking at what we want to add during a game
7:03
More guys stepping up in midfield, then the profile of Justin applies more to that situation
7:10
as the situation was today because I expected Justin to do the things
7:16
that he especially did in the second half is step in and making sure you have the 2v1 on the side
7:21
with Kevin and speed up play either on the outside or on the inside, and he did quite well
7:26
We'll go with Joe. Thanks. Coach, you just said about who you're looking to add
7:31
and we've got a little less than two weeks before that main transfer window closes to start the season
7:36
Concern about trying to find somebody, or do you think you have somebody
7:40
who can step in when you have to pull Maxi out because it seems that the team changes a lot without his influence
7:48
Changes in what way or sense? Aggressiveness, distribution, I think becomes more defensive-minded
7:56
Well, defensive-minded, I'm not quite sure if I'm on the same page with that
8:01
because if you put in Fernandes, who is also a very creative player
8:06
attacking minded also. For Guli, it's a different situation. He's been playing on the right wing
8:14
the majority of the games, but I think he is also able to add
8:19
some qualities in the middle if we need them. But I do agree that Maxi has a great impact on our game
8:27
because he's by far the midfield player who creates the most chances for the attackers
8:33
But we also have to make sure that Maxi is always available for each and every game
8:37
So that's finding the balance right there. And we're trying new things also with Juli
8:43
We're trying new things with Johnny Shore. And I think we will manage with this midfield
8:49
about the opportunity using the window. I've mentioned this before. We want to get the right players in
8:57
And if that takes longer, going into the summer window when the European window is open, we'll use that window
9:03
in order to make sure that we strengthen our dressing room
