Hey, what's going on? It is Scott from StreamPunk Soccer, and once again, happy spring
0:05
So the Major League Soccer owners chose not to vote on a possible change to the league's schedule
0:09
to match up closer to the international soccer calendar at the recent governor's meeting in Chicago
0:15
Please, if you can, yada yada, please comment and subscribe. It does really help the channel
0:19
And keep in mind, the more subs I can get, the cooler stuff I can get for you guys going forward
0:23
At the end of the day, I do work for you. Enough of the spiel, moving on. So the proposal in place would have shifted the start of the regular season schedule to around late July or maybe early August, play through mid-December just before Christmas, then take roughly a five, maybe six week break into the beginning of February and conclude the season around late May, early June
0:43
This also came with the possibility of changing the playoff format as well, maybe dumping the best of three first round
0:49
which would have made a lot of the fans, I think, really happy. Personally, I don't hate the best of three
0:55
but I'm well aware I'm in the minority here. Feel free to disagree. Now, the plan that was turned down is going to be revisited down the line
1:02
possibly 2027. But looking at this from my perspective, I feel this is a no-win scenario with the format that Major League Soccer has right now
1:12
Getting the league in line to the European calendar does make sense. And I do feel that some player injuries when they come over from Europe were aggravated by the new schedule I feel the change to Lionel Messi schedule may have led to some of the injuries he dealing with now But the problem is is the weather plays a factor In St Paul Minnesota
1:31
where the Minnesota United play, the average low in St. Paul is 10 in February, 25 in March
1:37
Foxborough, Massachusetts is basically the same for the revolution. Ironically, Toronto is actually
1:42
a little bit warmer, go figure. I am personally all for shit weather in the NFL. I love 10 degree
1:47
days. I love the snow. I love that come playoff time in the NFL. But those guys are 200 to 400
1:53
pounds. They're in padding. They are not 155 pound players in shorts. That's part of the problem that
1:59
they're trying to maybe alleviate with this. So what does the league do? The only solution I can
2:04
see here, and I am well aware this is absolutely not going to happen, but shorten the schedule
2:09
Something along the lines of July through Thanksgiving. Then from there, late February
2:13
through late May, a 28 to 30 game regular season schedule. Again, I know for a fact this is never
2:20
going to happen because of the revenue, but the issue that you have is the weather here in North
2:25
America is so much more diverse and extreme than Europe is. So what do you think? Give me a couple
2:30
thoughts here. Do you think they should have voted on it? What are your thoughts on a hypothetical
2:35
shorter schedule? Let me know in the comments what you think. Also stay tuned. I do have a guest I'll
2:40
be chatting with. I'm going to post that next week. Anyway, I'm Scott. Thanks as always for
2:44
watching. Appreciate the time. Let me know your thoughts. Let me know if there's any topics you
2:48
want me to cover. And as always, stay awesome
