The Minnesota Vikings are bringing multiple top 30 visits from Georgia
0:03
but it's a player on the team not coming in that could be the target. Let's talk about why
0:10
The Minnesota Vikings are a very interesting team when it comes to the NFL draft and their strategy behind it
0:16
General Manager Kweisi Dolfo-Menta is very interesting on how he approaches the draft
0:21
because he comes from Wall Street, and that's both a good and a bad thing, and we've seen both manifest themselves over the course of his first three years in office
0:28
Now entering his fourth draft, we're starting to develop some patterns and trends
0:33
And one of those is how they use top 30 visits. They use it in a multitude of ways
0:37
The Vikings have made 22 draft picks so far. Five of them have been picked
0:43
Five top 30 visits. So that's nearly 25%. Cesio DeMeuo in 2022
0:48
Jordan Addison, Mekhi Blackman, and Dwayne McBride in 2023. And Dallas Turner in 2024
0:53
But this is where things get really interesting. They have drafted multiple players
0:57
that were on teams of other players that visited. Illinois safety Kirby Joseph visited
1:04
and they took Viderian Lowe, the offensive tackle, in the sixth round at 22. In 23, they took safety Jay Ward
1:09
and defensive tackle Jaqueline Roy when offensive lineman Anthony Bradford and cornerback Jarek Bernard Converse visited
1:17
and Alabama kicker Will Reichard visited when they had Dallas Turniturian Arnold
1:21
and as well as Oregon cornerback Kyrie Jackson when they brought in Taki Taimani
1:25
and he is one of eight undrafted for agents that also visited
1:30
So the Vikings have a wide net, and this is where things get really interesting when it comes to Georgia
1:35
They have four players visiting on top 30 visits this week. Tight end Benjamin Eurosek, defensive lineman Warren Brinson
1:40
defensive lineman Nazir Stackhouse, and defensive lineman Tyrian Ingram Dawkins. Now, it could mean the Vikings have interest in all four players
1:47
but there's probably a little bit of other interest, and your arrow might point immediately to Malachi Starks completely understand that I think there a different player in mind What the one thing that links tight end defensive line together They all
2:03
play in the trenches. I think the target is Mike L. Williams
2:08
Also could be Jalen Walker. But hear me out on Mike L. Williams for a second. One of the
2:13
things that the Minnesota Vikings lacked last year was an interior pass rush and juice
2:18
They didn't have a lot of juice from that interior and they used a lot of the NASCAR package. Jihad Ward did really well. Pat Jones did really well. He got a $2 million
2:26
$2 or $20 million deal from the Panthers. Good for him. But they didn't have a lot of juice from
2:33
that interior. So what does Michael Williams bring? He brings a guy that plays similar to
2:37
Javion Clowney. He is not Javion Clowney, but they play somewhat similar styles. They love to
2:43
attack you. They love to leverage you with the speed to power game. They have enough power to
2:47
be able to handle double teams somewhat. Clowney was closer to like
2:51
280, 285 pounds. Michael Williams is 265. But it's very interesting that they might prioritize this kind of player
2:59
because he's also shown that he can do a little bit of two gapping. You don't want him to do it all
3:03
the time, but he can flash it. He can do gap and a half stuff, and that's a
3:07
really impressive thing. And he's got long enough arms to keep offensive linemen at bay
3:11
shed, and be able to get the tackle on the running back. He flashed that a lot, especially
3:15
against Texas. So why would the Vikings want that? Well, they want interior players. They want guys
3:21
that they can use with versatility. Michael Williams is that kind of player. He's not going to be as versatile as Jalen Walker, who's basically like
3:27
an Andrew Van Ginkle, Kyle Van Nooy hybrid where he is an edge rusher, but he's also
3:31
an off-ball linebacker, and there's real debate on where his spot is. But don't get it twisted
3:38
They could have interest in any of those four players in Georgia. But the common thread there
3:43
is Michael Williams. And I find that very, very interesting as we approach the NFL draft and conclude these
3:50
top 30 visits. It's something to be mindful of. I'm Tyler Fornes with ADZ Sports
