What's going on YouTube, JClarkTheJumper here and today I'm dropping three tips to help you get your first slam dunk
0:06
Now this video is specifically designed for somebody who is working on getting that first slam dunk
0:13
because we all know how magical that first one feels and these are the tips that I use to help me get to that level
0:21
However, this video could also be used to help you get a new dunk for yourself
0:25
because I use that when, you know, trying to get my first East Bay, trying to get my first 360 East Bay
0:31
and even further beyond trying to break out dunks that no one has ever done before
0:36
So these are tips to kind of help you get to that next level, whether it's your first dunk, a new dunk, or a dunk no one has ever done before
0:46
But really shooting for the people that haven't gotten their first dunk because I know how special that was
0:51
And I really want to see more people get that dunk and, you know, achieve your dreams and do your impossible
0:58
Do the impossible. Which leads me to the merch. Please check it out
1:02
I'm going to drop some links below. Support. The support has been amazing thus far
1:06
If you guys post yourself in the merch and tag me, I will post it to my story
1:10
I will shout it out on the YouTube. If you guys like this channel, please like, subscribe, share my content
1:17
It's been amazing. that's been growing and I just want to continue the process and keep it growing. So thank you thus
1:23
far and let's get into this video. So tip number one is going to be planning. My uncle always told
1:31
me failing to prepare is preparing to fail and that has stuck with me with anything that I do
1:37
in life. I have to have a plan in place and dunking is no exception. If you want to dunk you have to
1:44
have some plan in place if you want to ensure you get to that goal now you can
1:51
randomly go to the gym and randomly do stuff and eventually you could dunk but
1:57
if it's something that you want to control if you want to have a little
2:01
more say in what you doing and how you doing it and just overall have a better experience in my personal preference you need to have a plan in place that doesn mean go out and buy a
2:12
vertical leap program it could but at the end of the day you need some sort of planning to help
2:18
your training get to that specific goal there are a lot of vertical leap programs out there i will
2:26
be dropping a video on some of my favorites but just to name a few ben patrick atg they have a
2:33
program that's awesome john evans translating human performance he's a good one isaiah rivera
2:40
drops programs i have a vert program i'll put the links below all of the programs not just mine
2:48
kyla ray jukebox project pure athlete has some great stuff so there's a lot of programs out
2:54
there that you guys can check out it's not just about me it's not just about my ego and selling
2:59
programs it's really i recommend you guys do some research and find out what fits best for your
3:06
training your lifestyle because the more you tailor make your training to your lifestyle the
3:12
easier it is to stay dedicated stay determined stay focused on that plan because making the plan
3:19
is one thing and then following it is the next thing which leads me to number two there is no
3:28
magic pill that's going to help you jump higher there is no magic pill that's going to get you
3:34
to get your first dunk understanding that hard work and consistency are the only things that are
3:41
going to get you to your goal of your first dunk so there are going to be days when you feel great
3:47
You motivated You want to go January 1st new year new me I in the gym I pumping up I feel great Everything is good February 1st one month in you tired You been pushing yet you don see any progress That when the hard work determination that where step two comes in and you just have to make sure that you working hard and you being consistent with your training pain or shine you doing your exercises you getting your rest you
4:19
eating right then like i said there's no magic pill if you work as hard as you can and you're
4:27
you're following your plan and doing the right things eventually you will move towards the right
4:33
direction now things are going to happen and i you can't always predict things and it's not always
4:38
going to be an upward trajectory. There's going to be, it's going to be ups and downs, going to be ebbs and flows. You just got to be able to roll with the punches and just continue
4:45
to work hard and you will get there. You will get to your goal. Just stay committed, stay focused
4:51
stay determined. You got this. You can do it. Number three, this is more of a dunk specific
4:59
tip. I know the first two are very basic and very cliche, but this one is a big one. Technique
5:06
you need to make sure that you are focusing on your technique
5:10
A lot of people send me videos of them trying to dunk. And a lot of times the approach is sloppy
5:18
The takeoff is sloppy. You're putting so much emphasis in, I can squat three times my body weight
5:24
And yes, a lot of times when I post my videos on YouTube, it's me doing crazy feats of strength
5:30
But I spend as much time in the weight room I'm focusing on getting strong and applying force to the ground
5:39
I spend that time on technique thinking about where should my left foot be
5:44
Where should my right foot be? Where should my shoulders be in relation to my body
5:49
Am I upright? Should my knee be pointed inward? Those little details have a huge impact on your dunk training
5:57
So if you're jumping off of one foot, is your approach smooth? Are you accelerating through the takeoff
6:02
Meaning are you getting faster or are you slowing down? You want to make sure you're getting faster for the one foot takeoff
6:07
Same thing with the two, but more importantly with that one foot
6:11
With the two, are you in the right position? Are you timing up your triple extension which is your ankles your knees your hips Are you applying force straight down to go straight up Are you in the right position when the ball is in the air Are you throwing it
6:27
off the lob? Are you throwing it off the dribble? You need to make sure that you have all of these
6:31
things mapped out and you're working on the technique aspect of it, not just, you know
6:37
I'm in the gym and I'm getting stronger. Yeah, you can, you know, there's a lot of people that
6:43
can squat 400 pounds, but not all those people can dunk a basketball. So make sure that you're
6:48
focusing on your actual goal. A lot of times when I see people making their vertical leap programs
6:54
it's focused on weight room stuff because yes, the science shows that there's a lot of
6:59
correlation with weight room to jumping, but dunking specifically is more than just jumping
7:07
It's, you know, about your positions. It's about the art of dunking, how you look when you're
7:13
doing it. There are thousands of elite level long jump, triple jump, high jumpers that can step on
7:18
a basketball court and would lose a dunk contest to somebody that could probably not make their
7:23
high school state championship. It's not an automatic correlation. Jumping and dunking
7:29
although they are very correlated, it is not an automatic. So make sure you're focusing on the
7:35
technique of your dunking and that can really help you maximize your jumping ability to get that first
7:41
dunk. All right, I am rambling. I hope this really helped. Step one, make sure you have a plan
7:48
Step two, stay consistent, work hard. Step three, focus on that technique. I really hope this helps
7:55
