So I am here to tell you exactly why it took only three months for head coach Brian Schottenheimer
0:06
to leave his mark on the Dallas Cowboys and prove he's already doing things differently
0:15
Hey what's up everyone it's Mauricio Rodriguez here at ADZ Sports Dallas. Today we are talking
0:21
Brian Schottenheimer because he remains one of the biggest question marks surrounding this team
0:27
We maybe have not talked about it as much because the news happened back in January that he was going to take over the team after the Cowboys parted ways with Mike McCarthy
0:37
But now that the NFL draft is in the rearview mirror, I think Schottenheimer is about to take center stage
0:43
But I think that already Schottenheimer has shown he's doing things a little bit differently
0:48
And more importantly, then the front office is changing its ways to Schottenheimer's style as well
0:56
And I think the NFL draft proved exactly that And I going to tell you exactly why Going into this year draft Schottenheimer was talking a lot about high character players He was talking about wanting leaders in that locker room And he talked in his introductory
1:13
press conference about having players with a love for the game, players that want to be there with
1:20
a burning desire. And if you look at this year's picks that the Cowboys made in the NFL draft
1:25
he got those kind of guys. Now, I'll go through a list of players here very quickly. And the reason
1:30
why I think they're high character leader type players. And then at the end of the video
1:34
we can discuss if this even matters or not. Let's start with Tyler Booker
1:39
who was an Alabama captain and considered the guy who got the team back on track
1:44
after the Crimson Tide lost to the Vanderbilt Commodores in embarrassing fashion in 2024
1:51
He was the guy as described by an anonymous NFL scout on Dane Brugler's The Athletic
1:56
And if you hear his press conference, and I highly advise you to do so
2:00
if you're a diehard Cowboys fan, you can just hear the leadership
2:04
in Tyler Booker's voice. He's especially in that way. And a big reason why he was picked was not only that his grades compared well to Zach Martins in 2014 and you can hear that from Will McClay himself but that his leadership approach also resembles what Martin did for the
2:22
Cowboys for so many years. And in the third round, the Cowboys get Savon Ravel Jr. And most of the
2:28
stuff that you've heard from him is probably all about the injury he's trying to fight back from
2:33
and the fact that he would have been a first round prospect had it not been for the injury
2:38
But there's a very cool story about Revell Jr. that shows how he got six-figure NIL deal proposals from bigger colleges after he broke out at East Carolina
2:48
But he decided to stay loyal to the program that first believed in him after starting his career in JUCO
2:56
That's a high-character player, if you ask me. Then there's Jadon Blue
3:00
And shout out to Nick Harris from the 4th World Star-Telegram. He shared an awesome story on social media when the Texas running back was picked
3:07
And that is that during COVID, Blue actually organized workouts during his high school recruitment to stay active
3:14
But he organized multiple schools and dozens of people to get these workouts going And in the words of Harris he led the group chat he got the media there and he led the workouts You want to talk about a guy with a love for football How about
3:29
the guy jumping over fences to get these workouts going at a peak of COVID? And then the last prospect
3:34
that I would add to this list is Shamar James, the Florida linebacker that the Cowboys picked in the
3:40
fifth round, and that according to Gators head coach, Bill Napier, he brings a lot of positive
3:44
energy to the building, always got a smile on his face, knows everybody's name, and just a guy you
3:50
enjoy coaching and being around. Listen, this is not going to win Schottenheimer, the Super Bowl
3:55
or anything like that. I understand that. But long term, if we're talking about a coach that
4:00
wants to establish his own culture, that wants to get high character players in the building
4:06
for the front office to have looked for that actively in his first draft as head coach
4:11
I think that is telling. And again, it's not going to win them the Super Bowl. Of course, they got to get good players
4:17
They got to get the right scheme. They got to do some stuff they haven't done in plenty of years
4:21
But I think this is a nice change, and I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out
4:25
Let me know in the comments if you think this is going to impact the Cowboys in the future or not
