Andreas Nebel's Hamstring Injury: NYCFC Soccer Player's Surgery & Recovery

Andres, I suppose the first question is, we know you had the hernia surgery, then you came back and played a bit, and then we're out a while, and now seem fully fit again

Can you just take us through that a little bit, what happened maybe, and how you're feeling now

but at the end the medical staff and I thought it was too early

so we decided to take a couple of weeks to ensure that the body was well physically

and in general it was a recovery for 3-4 months in which we were sure that the body was well physically

and today I'm at 100. The injury happened last year, it was the attendant of the abductor

and it's an injury that was sustained towards the end of the season but continued to play for the rest of the season. Then in the offseason in

December I decided to get surgery and the recovery time was about 67 weeks but

we tried to push it and came back a little bit too quick then we decided to

take a break with the medical team had a couple discussions thought it was best to fully rest and fully recover for 43 months so that's why I was also absent

for the first couple weeks after my after the first two matches of the

of the season but now I feel feel well and feel ready to go. So you're under a new head coach this year that might have different ideas how you might

be used. What are some of the things that you've discovered with the new head coach

as far as what your role might be? Well, I think that obviously being a new coach and being injured and just

I'm a strong and athletic player, so I'm strong in that type of space

That's what we've been working on. I'm just getting into the coach, he's getting me to know

That's what I'm doing, working and trying to show my greater potential

It always good to start a new season with the new coach We getting to know each other Obviously it been a little difficult given that I was injured and coming back from injury But on a personal note I think working on transitions being that I a physical and athletic player

we're just working and getting better at that. But we're still getting to learn each other

But I'm happy with Coach and the relationship that we're building here

Sometimes we see you get forward and into the area. You've scored a couple of nice goals

Do you see yourself as a goal scorer? Do you think of yourself that way

Have you ever been in your career, youth, or whatever, been a forward type player

but not change our own identity. We've worked a lot on the defensive side of the game, also transitions

So it's just learning those teams in Toronto. we experienced that and we saw kind of how they set up but we're working every

single day to get better obviously as you know 10 12 15 games in everybody

starts getting rhythm starts getting to know each other and we're really now

getting into the the thickness of the competition but it's a it's a league of

transitions and closing down space and that's that's what we're focusing on

You mentioned your upbringing playing a more attacking role however historically at your time

in New York City, you've been mostly as a 6 or 8, but we have seen you come on late in games

Kind of explain what the instructions are that you receive when you are playing in that advanced role late in games versus when you playing further back and how do you enjoy playing up there Thanks

is try to maintain a high pressure, make a cover with the two runners that are playing

which have come to be Johnny and Keaton, sometimes Justin. So, yes, the majority of the time I've played from 6-6, 8-8

but when I'm in that position, it's try to get a late-duty player to find the goal

and in the defensive side, be very tactically applied. When I come in late in the matches

I usually take over Maxi's position at the 10, So my goal when I'm in that role is try to depress the defenders and be the key, be the start of the attack or defense for the team

Maxi obviously is a great player. I don't have the qualities and capabilities that he does

But what I do offer is bringing on pressure and working with Keaton, Justin, or Johnny in the midfield to apply that pressure and close down spaces of the opponents

It seems like this year with Bosco, the wingers have struggled. He hasn't really decided on which winger is going to start the game

Do you see that as an opportunity for you to get more minutes to maybe take advantage and be a pressing winger for this team
