Caramel Apples
Introduction
Caramel apples are a classic fall treat, combining crisp, juicy apples with a rich, buttery caramel coating. Perfect for Halloween, fairs, or a fun homemade dessert, these sweet delights are easy to make and customize with toppings like nuts, chocolate, or sprinkles.
Ingredients
6 medium apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Fuji)
6 wooden sticks
1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
1 cup (240ml) heavy cream
½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
1 cup (340g) light corn syrup
1 tsp vanilla extract
¼ tsp salt
Optional toppings: chopped nuts, crushed cookies, mini chocolate chips, sprinkles
Instructions
Prepare the Apples: Wash and dry the apples thoroughly. Remove the stems and insert wooden sticks into the tops. Place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
Make the Caramel: In a heavy-bottomed saucepan over medium heat, combine sugar, heavy cream, butter, and corn syrup. Stir until the butter melts and the sugar dissolves.
Cook the Caramel: Bring the mixture to a boil, stirring occasionally. Use a candy thermometer and cook until it reaches 240°F (soft-ball stage). Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract and salt.
