Caesar Salad
Introduction
The Caesar Salad is a timeless classic, known for its crisp romaine lettuce, rich and creamy dressing, and crunchy croutons. While often associated with Italian cuisine, it was actually created in the 1920s by Caesar Cardini, an Italian-American restaurateur in Tijuana, Mexico. The original version was made tableside with simple ingredients, yet it quickly became a worldwide favorite.
What sets Caesar Salad apart is its distinctive dressing—a blend of garlic, anchovies, egg yolk, Dijon mustard, lemon juice, and Parmesan cheese—creating a perfect balance of savory, tangy, and creamy flavors. Traditionally, this salad is topped with homemade croutons and freshly grated Parmesan for an extra crunch and depth of flavor.
This recipe follows a classic approach while allowing room for customization, such as adding grilled chicken, shrimp, or even bacon. Whether served as a side dish or a main course, Caesar Salad remains a refreshing and satisfying option for any meal.
