Buttermilk Biscuits Recipe
Buttermilk biscuits are a comforting classic that are perfect for any occasion, from breakfast to dinner. Soft, flaky, and with a rich, buttery flavor, they’re a staple in Southern cuisine. The magic lies in the buttermilk, which helps create tender layers and a melt-in-your-mouth texture. Whether served alongside gravy, jam, or just butter, these biscuits are sure to steal the show at any meal.
Ingredients:
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon sugar
1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
3/4 cup buttermilk (more if needed)
1 tablespoon butter, melted (for brushing)
Instructions:
Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 450°F (230°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Prepare dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar until well combined.
Cut in butter: Add the cubed cold butter to the dry ingredients. Using a pastry cutter or your fingers, work the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs with pea-sized pieces of butter.
Add buttermilk: Create a well in the center of the mixture and pour in the buttermilk. Stir gently with a spoon until the dough just comes together. Be careful not to overwork the dough.
