Biggest Tusker/ Elephant of Wilpattu | Elephants of Sri Lanka | Episode 4 -The Sri Lankan elephant population is now largely restricted to the dry zone in the north, east and southeast of Sri Lanka. It is estimated that Sri Lanka has the highest density of elephants in Asia. This tusker was living in wilpattu National Park and it was quite shy and difficult to spot. He was first recorded in 2012 from Borupan wila and then named as "mega" means the "thunder ". The Sri Lankan elephant Elephas maximus maximus is native to Sri Lanka and one of three recognized subspecies of the Asian elephant. It is the type subspecies of the Asian elephant and was first described by Carl Linnaeus in 1758. Sri Lankan elephants are the largest subspecies reaching a shoulder height of between 2 and 3.5 meters and weigh between 2,000 and 5,500 kilo grams. Their skin colour is darker than of indian and of sumathran sup species with larger and more distinct patches of depigmentation on ears, face, trunk and belly. Only 7% of males bear tusks and an average adult elephant tusks grow up to about 6 feet. this animal was recorded few times again when he was in must in the months of June , July from Wilpattu national park until he died in 2021 after being attacked by another tusker. #wildlife #wildlifedocumentary #minidocumentary
