Alright guys, so today I am in a city in Eastern Europe called Pristina, which is famous for the hospitality of the people, for its really good food, for apparently really good techno party, and for being very affordable for backpackers like me
0:15
So today I'm going to do a $10 challenge, which is a little less than 10 euros, and see how much stuff I can buy in this city with $10
0:23
Okay, so I got most of my recommendations from Reddit, which is a website for those kids that don't know what it is
0:29
And the first thing I was recommended to do was go to a Phura, which is supposed to be a bakery, and try out some baked goods which are supposed to be really cheap
0:38
I found a bakery called Phura Saranda. And looks like they have burek and yogurt right there
0:46
Hi. How are you doing? So, second kind of bread. Okay, that is burek
0:52
What kind of burek is this? This one is round burek. It's with cheese, meat or spinach
0:58
If you want, we have also the long one with meat and cheese
1:02
Can I get one with spinach, but a little bit? Like, just a little bit
1:06
One piece of burek is all of that. Okay, how much is that
1:12
One euro and ten cents. Okay, more lighter. Okay, I'll get this then
1:36
Okay, one of this. Thank you. So I'm getting a spinach burek with cheese and spinach, which is supposed to be 1 euro and 10 cents and an iran
1:53
Starting off the day with some cheesy stuff. I wanted to get a little bit because I want to eat more food, but getting a big one
2:01
Let's see. 40 cents please. Do you have change
2:13
Thank you very much. The iron is 30 cents and the budak is 1 and 10
2:20
Pretty good price. Okay, thank you. Bye. Bye. And people are so friendly
2:28
Almost got hit by a car. Okay, let's find a spot to eat. So let's start with the cheese burak. I found a place to sit
2:35
There are some like cops over there with some issue with parking. So they want to film right there
2:39
First the spinach burak. Let's try that. You can actually see inside the spijian spinach
2:44
Time for the first bite. Very nice and very heavy
3:00
Hi, how's it going? Are you famous? Kinda, yeah. Are you famous
3:08
Kinda, yeah. How much followers do you have? Like a million on YouTube
3:13
One million on YouTube? Yeah, yeah. I just say to you that you have one million because I see the acting of Logan and a pig on the camera
3:21
A lot of practice. A lot of practice. I see Logan speaking on the camera unless you have this attitude for one million followers
3:29
Thank you. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah, I see, I see. Just continue
3:33
We don't disturb you. Met some friendly people who like looked at me and they're like, you must have a million subs
3:40
And I'm like, I do. I actually don't. But I will probably in the next hour. I'm like at 999,900 or something like that
3:45
I think it might be one million by now. Now to try the yogurt
3:50
This is supposed to be a sour yogurt, which is lighter than the usual ones
3:59
Yogurt and burek is always a good combination. If you watch my other videos from the Balkans, you should know this
4:07
I don't know your name, you too. Yeah, yeah. What's your name, bro? Alvin. Alvin
4:11
Yeah, bro, but not now because my hair... Oh yeah, same. My hair is not the best in the morning
4:16
Thank you very much. Have a good time. Alright, bro. This is Europe
4:20
Found a new subscriber for Prashina. Man, it's sunny all of a sudden
4:24
So, basically, I'm not gonna finish all this burek because I want to eat something else that's supposed to be really good
4:28
So I'm gonna put this in my bag and eat this later in the evening
4:33
It's kind of funny that the guy didn't want to be in the video because he thought his hair wasn't good enough
4:37
People in the Balkans, often in this part at least, are very specific about their hair and their haircuts
4:42
And you'll see a lot of hairdressers around the street. So right now I'm gonna go to this hamburger place called Hamburger Skenda
4:48
It's supposed to have some very delicious hamburgers for just one euro
4:54
Can I have one hamburger? Yes, they're making the hamburgers over there
5:13
Cutting fresh tomatoes here. I thought I wasn entirely accurate about the prices earlier This is like one euro 50 cents so the unit 50 cents back that still a pretty good deal for a big burger like
5:47
one dollar seventy cents this is like a massive burger and we're trying to eat the
5:51
whole thing because that's why I didn't eat that earlier it's really good
6:02
It's made out of like beef for the most part and of course there's tomatoes, salad, ketchup, onion
6:08
From what I understand in Kishiyam, most people are Albanians, ethnically, so they're technically
6:15
Muslims even though a lot of them are not very religious. A lot of them are very secular or atheist even
6:23
But because they're technically Muslim, they don't have a lot of food made from pork
6:28
It's mostly going to be beef, chicken and lamb. Really good burgers so far
6:32
Okay, so I've only spent like three dollars and I'm already like really really full
6:36
So now I'm gonna take a break from eating and try to see the things you can see in the city
6:41
for really cheap or for free. As I'm going towards the old town, I can see a lot more bakeries with the words
6:47
Pura written right there. Just like every other city in Europe, Christina also has its own clock tower
6:54
It just went off a second ago. So there's actually a lot of pretty little mosques around town like this one over here
6:59
and right now we're gonna go to the oldest one which is also right here something that kind of caught me off guard is how much traffic there is on
7:06
this one street so my hostel is right over there and there's like traffic till 11 p.m every day there's no break so behind me right now is the Sultan Murad
7:14
mosque which is the oldest mosque in the city which is built in the 14th century
7:18
by the Ottomans behind their Ottoman Sultan Murad so as you can tell from
7:23
that story Christina and all of Kosovo was colonized by the Ottomans and ruled
7:29
by them for hundreds of years. I'm gonna go and see if I can take a look inside
7:32
Looks like this dog here is trying to cross the street to the sidewalk
7:37
Man, this dog literally waited till the light was green before it crossed the street. This dog is more civilized than a lot of people like that
7:50
Always important to take your shoes off before you enter a mosque
7:59
So I just talked to someone inside the mosque and I guess this is not really meant to be
8:04
a tourist attraction. It's still a place of worship as I realized
8:08
But if you do decide to go in wearing the right clothes which you have to go to like cover your shoulders, long pants and everything
8:13
And if you are respectful and you're not making any noises and you're not disturbing or getting
8:18
in the way of anyone who's actually trying to pray there, I think it's fine from what
8:23
I understood to go there and take a picture or something like that. Just don't vlog in there
8:26
Just right next to the mosque is this monument behind me called the Brotherhood and Unity Memorial
8:32
So Brotherhood and Unity was the slogan of Yugoslavia, which Pristina and all of Kosovo used to be a part of
8:38
along with pretty much everything else in the region surrounding here except for Albania
8:43
And this was built in the 50s if I remember right in stereotypical or typical brutalist architecture style
8:56
You wanna say something? He wants some more! He wants to be on video
9:01
Goodbye. Bye bye. Bye! See you next time. See you next time
9:06
Some kids here wanted to be on video, but when I actually turned on the camera, they freaked out and got really shy and ran away
9:12
So I'm at this big square at the center of the city, and behind me is the statue of this guy on a horse
9:18
If you've followed my channel for like a year, and if this guy looks familiar, it's because he is
9:23
This is a statue of Skanderbeek, And there's a statue of this exact same person on a horse in the center of Tirana, if you watched my Tirana vlog
9:31
For those of you who haven't watched my Tirana vlog, Skanderbe was a feudal lord and a military commander who was of Albanian descent
9:38
And he successfully led a revolution against the Ottoman Empire many hundreds of years ago
9:44
So he's a local hero in not just Albania, but any other place where people are ethnically Albanian
9:51
So next to the statue is this boulevard called Mother Teresa Boulevard
9:58
It's this nice little walkway with a lot of really cute cafes and ice cream places and
10:04
just places to get a coffee in the middle of the city. And this place is named after Mother Teresa because although she was not from Pristina
10:12
or Kosovo, she was of Albanian descent and she is one of the people that the Albanian
10:18
people are very proud of. So you'll see things named after her everywhere from Albania to here to even in Skopje if you watch my video about that
10:27
How much is one? 150. Can I have one? Look right here
10:34
Oh, your business is good. Look, put down, that's all. Oh, sorry, I have a question
10:40
When can I go to the house? The house or the house
10:48
Here's 160. Do you have change? Okay, perfect. Which one is it? This one? Okay
10:58
Do you have salt or something? Okay. Thank you so much. Okay, so for another one euro and fifty cents I got this very hot corn
11:19
Not bad I gonna have a hard time finishing this I need to hold off on the food for like the next few hours Okay so right now I in front of the National Library of Kosovo As the name suggests this is the main library of Kosovo
11:34
What's more interesting than anything else is the architecture of this place. This building is one of the most absurd things I've ever seen. There's like 99
11:43
translucent domes on top of this building. I can't really understand why this was made in the structures
11:47
there's like metal grills outside of it too. Looks very interesting. Let's see if
11:51
it looks any better from the inside. Okay, so from the inside this looks like much more of a normal building and the
12:05
domes actually don't look that bad from the inside. They just look really weird
12:09
from the outside for some reason. Something very interesting is that they
12:13
had a section at the very entrance library called American Corner which I
12:18
guess is just dedicated to literature about US or maybe the US intervention
12:24
Okay so the American Corner in the library turned out to be more about American literature and American poets and stuff so not as political as I
12:31
expected it to be but something really interesting is that when you come outside
12:35
the library the front gate you see this Cathedral which is called I think the
12:40
Mother Teresa Cathedral, which I believe is the biggest cathedral in Pristina at least
12:45
or at least the most aesthetically pleasing looking one from all the ones I've seen
12:50
And to my right, right on the other side, is this like Orthodox cathedral, Orthodox temple
12:55
which has been incomplete for 24 years. The construction of this started like in the 90s
13:00
and then the Kosovo war broke out, and Kosovo basically managed to gain independence from Serbia
13:06
and the building was never completed. So yeah, it's still right there
13:09
You see a skeleton of the building or what was supposed to be at least Okay, so it's getting pretty hot inside the city
13:16
So I'm gonna go to the spot like a little bit outside the city where people usually go to cool off in the summer
13:21
I'm gonna get on one of the city buses How much is it? 50
13:43
One more I'll have a look So one way ticket actually costs like 50 cents and you get like a receipt for your ticket
13:57
Okay, so right now I am in Keremese Park which is only like a 15-minute bus ride from the city center of Pristina
14:05
but it looks like a completely different place different place. Like I mentioned earlier, people come here to chill and like literally cool down
14:12
like in this pool next to me where entry used to be only like one euro or 1.5 euros even a few years
14:19
ago but now they increase the prices of that this year so it's like four euros for adults and two
14:26
euros for kids I think and it's I think it's five euros for adults on the weekends but that would
14:31
break my ten dollar budget because that would be half of it so I'm not gonna get in the water right
14:35
Now the cool thing is that this park is actually at the start of this national park called
14:41
Gurmia National Park. Lots of trees and a forest and hills. I don't know if it goes up to mountains, but there's definitely some elevation over here
14:51
So you can also just come here and start your hikes basically. Okay, so there's also a free calisthenics park at this national park
15:05
Not gonna lie. That's one of the main reasons that I came here I don't really get to work out much when I travel but for the last couple of weeks
15:12
I've been trying to at least do like push-ups and pull-ups multiple times a week while I'm traveling. Let's see how long this goes Hi
15:18
So I just realized on the bus that one of my channels Not this one but another one that I have in a different language hit a million subscribers
15:27
It's been a pretty strange day First of all like I woke up with a fever because I've kind of had a fever for the last couple of days and I'm leaving Christina tomorrow
15:35
So I knew I had to film this so instead of filming at 9 and just took like a
15:39
Ibuprofen felt a lot better at 11 and then just went out and started eating and started filming and then I completely forgot that
15:47
I even had a fever so I went out and did pull ups in the Sun. It's probably a terrible idea
15:51
I don't know if you think about it, but yeah, it's been a pretty eventful day so far
15:58
So right now I'm on the street called Bill Clinton Boulevard and behind me is
16:03
is a statue of Bill Clinton, who is, or seems to be at least, some sort of national hero over here
16:11
And that's because he was the president of the U.S., which was leading the NATO forces in its intervention in the Balkans
16:19
that essentially allowed Kosovo to gain its de facto independence from Serbia
16:25
And if I go into that, that will take an hour for me to explain what happened
16:29
So I would recommend reading a book called Balkans, Nationalism, War and the Great Power
16:37
I believe that's the name. It's by Misha Glennie, which is like a thousand page book that goes over the history of this
16:42
whole place. And it's pretty fascinating, one of the best history books I've ever read. I don't have the time to go over all of that and I don't think I could do it justice
16:49
But if you do want to watch a short video on the conflicts and what happened in the
16:54
90s and early 2000s I would recommend checking out another video I made from Sarajevo on this topic I link that in the bio as well So now I gonna try to find some food because I finally hungry again And I need to spend some of that that left So I found a restaurant here called restaurante
17:10
Nazi, so I'm pretty sure this name has nothing to do with World War two or Hitler, but let's go inside and make sure
17:17
Do you have a menu? Yes Hi Do you have a menu? Yes
17:26
Let's see what's on the menu. Oh my god, there's plescavice. Okay, so I'll get one pomfret
17:32
Pomfret. Medias. Medias? Okay, yeah. Okay, I'll get that. Pomfret. Okay, alright
17:38
Just here, yeah? Come from Bangladesh. Okay, so from what I found out
17:44
Nazi is basically short for an Albanian name. I think it was like Nazmi or something, so..
17:50
Thankfully, no connection to what we're thinking about. thinking about. No problem, my friend
17:58
Okay, so for only two euros, I got this thing called Pommes Frites Mediat, which basically
18:06
means fries with like bits of like cheese inside it, which looks delicious
18:12
And they also gave me bread, all for two euros. This is a pretty good deal, I'd say
18:16
Ketchup is important with fries, apparently not with shorma, according to all my viewers
18:21
that one short. Pretty standard, pretty nice. Amazing for the price. Let's try the cheese
18:36
It's pretty good. Really nice, really soft bread. I thought this would be something small. This is quite a bit of
18:46
fries but I still have one euro left on my budget for a little bit more so I'm
18:51
gonna save that for another item okay that was a really nice meal at restaurant Te Nazi so for the next stop we're going to it's actually like a 30
18:59
minute walk away or 2.4 kilometers now I could just take a taxi for really cheap
19:04
because taxis are actually really cheap unless you're getting scammed at the bus station and would cost maybe like two euros or three euros but I want to
19:13
save that last bit of balance for that special meal. I also need to empty out my
19:18
stomach a little bit so I want to take my time till I get there and I'm also
19:23
kind of enjoying this walk through the residential neighborhood on the outskirts of Pristina. We're very far from the center now. Very far like two
19:33
two and a half kilometers not that far but not at the center for sure
19:43
Okay, so my last stop for the day was supposed to be this place called Tara Kofte
19:48
Which sells like some delicious kofte or meatballs by this guy who's supposed to be a very eccentric person
19:54
Very charismatic chef or whatever you call it, but looks like it's closed today
19:59
So I'm gonna find something else to spend the last 1 euro and 80 cents and I think I have an idea
20:06
But I have to say these mosques look really majestic at night with the lighting
20:16
So for the last expense of today, I came to the Hib district of Pristina, where this guy found me while I was trying to figure out Google Maps and gave me a tour of all the bars
20:27
And brought me to this one bar, I think it's called Bubble or something, it's like a LGBTQ friendly bar
20:32
And I ordered a Pea beer, which is like this famous beer from Kosovo
20:37
Actually I had it before in Albania, so I know it's good. And this is 2 euros
20:47
Just as good as I remember it. Okay, so I think that is going to be it for my $10 challenge video from Pristina
20:52
I think I'm going to go home and the guy I just ran into again invited me out with his friends for like a night out
20:59
But I need to go home and evaluate how I'm feeling health-wise because this morning I wasn't feeling great and tomorrow morning
21:03
I gotta catch a bus to another city like 7 hours away
21:07
So, let's see what happens But to recap today, at first I tried that burek
21:13
most of which is still left at my place and yogurt then I had the famous hamburger
21:19
then I had the fried corn actually right on the street and then after that... where did I go
21:26
Yeah, I took the bus and then back from that park. Then I went through like a bunch of places and ended up in a restaurant Tenadzi
21:35
Nazi, maybe not Nazi. And I had my fries and then finally finished this off with a beer that's famous from Kosovo
21:43
Peja beer. And of course in the middle of that I showed you all the things that you can kind of go visit
21:48
like the National Library and everything without spending Bangladesh. Albania! The kids are just yelling Albania
21:54
But yeah, all the places you can visit for free without spending any money
21:59
So this is what you can do with $10 or 9.4 euros if I'm doing the math right
22:04
If you want to watch more videos like this, please do let me know. I could do a lot more of these. These are fun to do
22:08
I'm a YouTuber. I'm a YouTuber, yeah. YouTube? Yeah. Kids Albania. Some very nationalistic kids we have there
22:17
But yeah, if you want to watch more videos like this, please do let me know in the comments
22:21
I think I've only made one more video like this from Mumbai a long time ago. That was more history than a $10 challenge honestly
22:26
So I could do more of these. These are kind of fun to do. And if you want to watch more videos, feel free to subscribe to my channel
22:33
And if you want real time travel updates, feel free to follow me on Instagram, at Nadir
22:36
on the go. I'll catch you guys the next video from, I really don't know where
22:41
I need to edit a bunch of videos that I've been filming for the last two months. So let's see
#Travel & Transportation
