Inari is related to foxes and it is believed that she can shapeshift into a fox too. Due to this ability, many stories of Inari are sometimes very similar to the ones of Kitsune, the Yokai.
Inari is popular everywhere in Japan and she is described in many different ways. Sometimes she is even depicted as a man, an old man responsible for the rice crops.
