Background removal technologies come a long way over the years
0:03
but even the mighty Photoshop gets things wrong. You can press remove background and still have bits of your pictures
0:08
that shouldn't be deleted, taken out. So when the guys that click magic asked me to test out their new app sumo deal
0:15
I jumped at the chance. It's a very easy to use system. Simply drag and drop your image onto their website
0:21
It's a web-based application. You don't need to download anything. Once the image has uploaded, their AI goes to work, does its little magic
0:30
and removes the background. You then got 30 minutes to download this. You can either download
0:34
a preview image for free or you download the HD image and that costs one credit. At the moment
0:40
there's a maximum file size of 16 meg for each photo. It will let you know if your file's too big
0:46
You'll then need to go away, adjust the quality of that to reduce the size and then re-upload it
0:51
to have the background removed. One thing I was very keen to test was how it dealt with hair
0:57
Now I don have a lot of hair so I used some stock images of hair flowing around because that can be very tricky It very wispy very thin and quite often background removers can cut that out thinking it part of the background rather than part of the subject
1:11
So far it hasn't failed me at all, whether it be a product photo or a person photo
1:16
It's managed to give me something that looks good every time. You've also got a image editor built in
1:22
You can either edit the preview or the HD version, and that has some basic features
1:27
such as changing the background so by default you get a transparent background
1:31
but you can add some of these colourful backgrounds to it you can also adjust the blur of the background
1:37
and you can add your own image if you don't want to use one of the preset ones
1:41
or you can change to a colour background just a nice solid colour
1:45
that would be great if you're doing product photography there's also a basic paint and erase
1:51
option that allows you to adjust what has been erased and restore the image
1:55
back to its original state I have two main methods for removing backgrounds. I'll either use Photoshop or I'll use the
2:03
excellent CRELO that has a one button background remover as well so I was very keen to put it to the test up against these options And straightway Crelo proved it was not really up to the task in the same way that
2:16
Photoshop or Click Magic was. So here we've got all four images at the same time
2:21
You've got the original, the Crello version, Click Magic and Photoshop. You can see Click Magic holding its own against the Photoshop background remover
2:28
Crello though really struggling with the hair and background. That's even more prominent here in this second picture
2:35
where we see Cuello's actually given her a haircut and removed part of her arm
2:39
Again though, Click Magic and Photoshop looking very similar. They're going toe to toe at the moment
2:45
Switching to some product photos, again you can see Crello's struggling, it's cut out part of the strap
2:50
whereas Photoshop and Click Magic have everything in place, all the hands and the straps as well
2:57
Here's where things get interesting. You can see that Crello and Photoshop
3:02
haven't done a great job here. Photoshop has got the main headphones section in but
3:06
it left in a bit of the trousers at the bottom and Crello missing part of the headphones but has removed all the trousers And then finally this one actually Crello does come out on top of Photoshop Photoshop for some reason decided to remove a little bit of the blue on the packaging
3:21
whereas Crello didn't. So far then, Click Magic is proving to be a lot more reliable than Crello and a little bit more
3:29
reliable than Photoshop. And you can try it yourself. There's three free credits if you go to their website
3:35
Or if you know that this is definitely something you want, over to AppSumo via my affiliate link below and for $39, you'll get 30 credits each month
3:43
They don't roll over, they reset. So if you need more, you can stack the code so you can get 30, 60 or 90 credits per month
3:50
resetting each month for 39 times one, two or three. Why I think this is a good one to invest in is on their roadmap
3:58
They've got some very interesting features including apps for Android and desktop
4:02
but also a video background removal. That is very interesting and a Photoshop plugin

I hope you found this quick demo useful. If you want to check more of this out, go ahead and click on the affiliate link below
