I was feeling pretty bad one day, me being in the emergency response for years

I knew what was up, but I was being hard-headed. And so I was like, no, this can't be it, can't be it

And then the baby woke up. I went to carry him down the stairs, and I was dropping him in my hands

He tells me that he has had a stroke and all this, so I had to instantly

Like part of me just like shuts down the emotional part and just starts getting into logistics

Luckily, my wife's command stepped up and they contacted the Fisher House

They got a hold of a whole bunch of command members there in Anchorage and got me situated with the Fisher House

As soon as she said that, you know, it's like a weight off your shoulders

Now you can just keep worrying about the other 10,000 things that you need to worry about

When I was in the hospital, I was in a dark spot

My fear was dropping my son down the stairs that day when everything was going wrong

And so I made it my personal goal to be able to pick my boy up and to fight back as hard as I can And that what I done He going to know that it going to be there for him no matter what

We have a place to sleep. We have food because there's always food available at the Fisher House

And funny enough, when you are going through these kind of moments

making a meal is actually something that grounds you. because it's something that is part of your normal routine

So it's like the little something that actually feels normal. It really will make you feel at home when you're not home

To me, it was a blessing. It's always going to be a blessing. It's not like you're going to a resort somewhere where you're like

okay, drop our bags, we've got to go. We can come there, we can breathe, we can relax

and just focus on us as a family. And that's the main part about the Fisher House is it's about our family

Fisher-Allister is family. Home away from home. Sometimes even better
