In today's video, we're going to look at some new bushcraft tools in the Woodsman's Rucksack
0:04
Stick around, it's going to be a good video. So, today I wanted to get out in the woods. The temperatures have cooled down quite a bit today
0:18
It's like in the low 70s. I was in the low 60s this morning, so it's really beautiful out
0:25
no humidity, and I'm back here in the woods exploring kind of a new area that I haven't
0:30
been to before, and I found this little grove of trees, and there's this really nice old oak
0:37
that has barbed wire fence that the tree's grown through, and the barbed wire fence is coming
0:42
through it, coming out of it. It's kind of cool. It's really shady back here and cool
0:49
Bugs aren't too bad, so what I'm going to do is I'm going to set up a little little camp today, make some lunch on a stove, and show you some tools and some gear that I've
0:59
recently received that I think are gonna make great bushcraft tools for my Bushcraft Woodsman
1:05
Day Ruck. The pack that I'm sporting today is from Duluth. I think this is the Woodsman or
1:14
something like that. Really cool pack. I love it. It's pretty neat. Side pockets and a bungee
1:21
cord system on the front, and then the whole thing opens up and opens up so you can see
1:26
contents of the pack, so it's a really cool pack, but I've got some other stuff I want to show you
1:30
too, so we're going to go through that, and I'm going to start making my lunch because I'm getting
1:35
hungry, and I'll just talk through while I'm making stuff and show you some of this new gear that I
1:41
got that I think are going to make fantastic additions to your bushcraft kit, so let's get
1:48
into it. First thing that I wanted to try today, I got this new ground cloth from Colorado Bushcraft
1:57
They make a lot of custom canvas and some leather goods. They have all kinds of cool stuff
2:05
haversacks and all kinds of pouches, but they have this really, but they have these really cool
2:10
ground cloths, and I found this one on Instagram. They're having a sale, and I'll have to look up the
2:19
dimensions, but man, this thing is super nice because it's all multicam black cordura. It's got
2:26
grommets along the outer perimeter, so you can stake it down, but I thought that would be a perfect
2:32
heavy-duty ground cloth that I can lay on the ground when I'm setting and doing my cooking
2:39
and my setting up on my camp, and then since it's cordura, I can treat it. I can wash it. I can scrub it
2:48
and it's heavy duty, so twigs aren't going to pop through it. It should be perfect for this
2:54
application. I'm really looking forward to using it because I think it's a pretty neat looking piece
2:58
of kit. I've always got a foam pad to sit on and kneel on, and that gives that pack some structure
3:09
too. Gloves. Gotta have gloves if you're working with tools out in the woods
3:19
So I got my pack. I've got my Wildo mess kit, and it comes with a really nice spork, and then I've added
3:30
this Ozark Trail folding cup, and I got a couple hot sauce packets in there
3:39
Then I've got my cook pot. This is from Boundless Voyage. You've probably seen it in some of my
3:46
other videos that I've made. I actually did a review on it a long time ago, but it is titanium
3:53
but what's awesome about this thing is it has a bail, has handles. It will fit a Nalgene Oasis
4:04
canteen perfectly, and I think even the military-issue canteens will fit in this perfectly
4:08
so you can use this as a canteen kit. It also comes with this really cool stove stand
4:14
so you can build a fire underneath that or use an alcohol stove or fire starting cubes
4:22
S-bit tabs, something like that. So really cool. Of course, just a first aid kit. Nothing special
4:28
there. And then for lunch today, we are going to be doing some Chapagetti Zhajing noodles
4:39
That's from Nongshim, and then I think a perfect addition to that would be
4:45
Tuna Creations Spicy Korean Style. So that's lunch. And then the stove I'm going to use, because I don't want to start a fire out here on the ground
4:59
but I got the stove. I know you guys are going to ask me about this thing. I want to know where
5:04
I got it at and where can I get one. I've shown this in another video. This I actually got off
5:09
of Timu, and it was super cheap, like 11 or 12 bucks, but it's stainless steel
5:17
and I'll put this together and you guys can see this thing, but it's pretty cool. And I'll show you some tricks with it, but I've been using this lately, and I really like it
5:24
I like the size of it, and it's just a cool stove. So we'll set that up
5:29
And then the one thing that I definitely want to mess with today is this new BPS knives. I think
5:36
this is the Wolverine, is what they call it. If you're unfamiliar with this brand
5:41
um, they are out of the Ukraine, and they make some really nice budget-friendly bushcraft knives
5:56
This is one of their bigger ones. It has a really nice handle oak, and a sharpened spine
6:04
and a decent Scandi grind on this thing. And I think this this is the stainless version. They
6:10
also have a high carbon steel version as well, and it comes with a really nice leather dangler
6:16
sheath with a matching ferro rod. So, um, fantastic budget bushcraft package right there
6:25
And if you're a woodsman, you got to have a good knife, and BPS is definitely worth checking out
6:31
Then here is, this is from Centerline Systems. This is the, um, their tool roll
6:38
and what I got in here is really my, my kind of emergency shelter kit. So this opens up
6:48
and you're able to hang this from a ridge line or off of the branch
6:52
But what's fantastic about this is it holds my 5x7 camo tarp. This is from, um, Etowah
6:59
So it's a good size tarp for an emergency tarp or a day tarp. In this pocket I've got my stakes
7:07
and these stakes actually came with that tarp. And then I also have 550 cord
7:14
And here I've got some bank line, and then down here I've got some guy lines
7:32
already set up, kind of pre-rigged. So a really nice way to organize your shelter system
7:38
The Centerline Systems tool rolls are just awesome. And I lucked out and found one in multi-cam plaque, so it matches my ground tarp, which is
7:47
kind of cool. About the only other thing that I've got, um, I recently received this CampCraft
7:54
Outdoors bag, and what this is, this goes with my grail. And, um, it allows me to fill this with
8:03
dirty water and then drip this into the grail so it's filtering out all the gunk. That's one
8:09
thing I didn't have. I did a video on the grail as a great option for a lightweight day hiking kit
8:18
and I still stand by that the grail is a fantastic filter to put in your day kit
8:24
But if you do get a grail, I highly suggest getting one of these bags
8:28
And then other tools, I always have my Baco with me. The Baco Laplander is for my day kit
8:37
I like the size of it. Fantastic saw. Performs very well. Had this one for many, many years
8:44
You can replace the blade. They also come in orange and green, so you can pick your color
8:51
but it is a fantastic bushcraft tool. Very lightweight and very durable. The newest
8:57
addition to my kit is this Hardcore Hammer Naturalist Hatchet. I don't have any experience
9:06
with this company. Really didn't know much about them, but I've seen them online. I always thought
9:11
they were kind of interesting because they're really, it's, it looks like a carpenter's hatchet
9:18
in that it has, you know, a hammer on the end, it has the nail puller, and then of course a very
9:24
sharp hatchet blade. But I like the length of it, and I was able to pick this up
9:33
fairly cheaply off the secondary market. A guy I knew had it and was getting rid of it
9:38
and I got it for a good price. So I thought, well, what the heck? I think it'd be a good size
9:42
Now I did a little splitting with it. There's not a lot of wood that I can split back here
9:48
without cutting down some stuff, and I don't want to do that. And the wood is a little punky
9:53
so it's kind of soft. So probably not the best test, but I really like the length of the handle
10:01
It's perfect for a day kit, for a day pack, and then, you know, I think there's good capability
10:06
with this for limbing, for shelter building, driving stakes, just a lot of different applications
10:14
So I think it's gonna be a great tool. All right, now we're gonna build the stove. A little finicky
10:23
I'll tell you, I'm gonna go hungry. Try and build the stove. It's the only bad thing about these jigsaw puzzle stoves. I hate these
10:36
things because a stove that is hinged is so much better. Now the flaw with this stove is this. So
10:48
the grate, really nice grate, right? You can cook a steak on this. Nice size, and I like the
10:55
shape of that firebox. That holds a lot of wood, and it's got good airflow from the bottom and
11:00
the sides. But here's the problem. Getting any kind of sizable wood inside this thing
11:07
while you're cooking on it, you can't do it because the grate is covering it. There is
11:13
a little bit of area right in here that you could sneak some sticks in, but you risk the
11:20
possibility of knocking over your pot. So what I have done before is put the grate like this
11:29
So I have my pot on it. I can still feed wood into it. I think that'll work out pretty well
11:36
But then if I wanted to grill like a big piece of meat, like a steak or some brats or something
11:42
I would have to go back to this configuration
12:12
So brand new ferro rod
12:42
So I got room now on the side that I can actually feed this a little bit
13:21
And I can move the sticks more underneath
13:42
So so
14:27
so so
15:12
so with these canvas packs from like Duluth and Frost River and some others
15:32
there usually isn't a frame sheet. The padding on the shoulder straps is very minute. I mean
15:38
it's basically just strap material. There's really no padding, usually no load lifters
15:43
waist belts, sternum straps, all that other stuff. So these are very bare bones backpack
15:50
but they're designed after very historic canoe packs and woodsman's packs and rucksacks from
16:00
way back in the day that's been around forever. But they've just been modernizing them with
16:05
better and better canvas material. And, you know, I'm not doing overnights with big sleeping bags and tents and things like that. This is a day pack. That's
16:17
the intent for me. So it just has some essential items so I can go out, go on a hike
16:25
do some scouting, exploring like I'm doing today, pack a few tools, pack some lunch and some water
16:31
and I'm good to go. So that's all it's meant to do. And this works perfectly for that. So
16:37
all right, I'm going to get out of here. Check out the affiliate links down below
