So
0:30
So Hey guys, welcome back to the channel so today out in the woods
0:58
Beautiful day Autumn is here for sure and it is gorgeous out nice sunny day. Finally a break from the rain. We've had so much rain lately, but
1:10
Today I'm do a little a little bushcraft cooking in the in the woods
1:14
but it's gonna be a little different because I put together something that's um, I've improvised together and it's kind of unusual. So
1:24
Stick around because I'm gonna show it to you here in a second alright, so I wanted to show you guys a couple things I've been putting together lately and
1:31
I thought this is kind of neat and just to preface this whole segment
1:38
I did not come up with this idea This is an idea that I saw a long time ago on another forum and I was really impressed by it
1:47
I thought was kind of cool and I Actually gathered the materials to put this thing together, but I never
1:52
Test fired it. So what we're doing today is this is gonna be an improvised
1:57
portable campfire basically, it's gonna be a stove and So we got barbecue skewers
2:04
We have a windscreen that you would find at any camping store
2:09
Usually used for a gas stove. Then we have a this foldable
2:15
strainer Now what we're gonna be doing is this is gonna be our base for our fire
2:21
The windscreen is gonna go around the back of it and then these barbecue skewers are actually going to be the pot supports
2:38
Okay, so here's our base that's gonna be basically our firebox that's gonna hold the wood
2:51
Here's the windscreen of these are Pretty inexpensive Find them just about anywhere
3:00
It's nice because it has this These stakes that go into the ground so now it's gonna hold it against the the firebox
3:07
It's not gonna move around on me. And what I've done is I've drilled holes all the way around
3:12
So I can have different positions, but I think for the what I'm gonna be cooking today. We're gonna do it this way
3:21
That Should give us plenty of room and height to actually cook something under there
3:34
I'm gonna try one of these Weber cubes I've never tried these outside and you know at a camp usually do them at home like the fire pits
3:44
They work pretty well There's my new tool roll I just picked up did a video on that if you're interested in it
4:17
That's A great thing about this I can prop up twigs and stuff to get this going
4:46
I Changed up a few things And I've added some stuff taking away some stuff, but I'm really excited about it
5:00
I think it's gonna be a great versatile kit. So the first thing I've got here is the GSI stainless steel kettle
5:06
Which I just used this on my last trip. There's a video about that and And
5:13
This thing worked out perfectly it was awesome and then I really the great thing about this is that how the lid
5:18
stays on when you pour Because the bail locks and then it holds the lid in see that
5:27
And it's got this nice wide opening That you can store stuff in so I got a cup in there
5:32
really awesome And it's stainless steel which you can't beat that the second thing
5:39
I'm gonna use this year that I haven't tried before in the past. I'm gonna use this
5:45
USGI mess kit Traditionally when they design these mess kits, they really weren't designed to be frying pans
5:53
But that's what I'm gonna use mine for and it's gonna be a multi-purpose item. So
5:57
it's gonna allow me to Cook meat Over an open fire or on a stove pretty easily
6:07
And it's also gonna give me a plate and a bowl so I don't need a lot of additional equipment. You also have this lid
6:14
Which if you didn't know Actually goes on the handle like that
6:19
That's when they'd go through their chow lines the soldiers would have stuff put on here as well as food in here
6:24
So there was a two-tier system, but I probably won't be using it for like that. But this will be nice for
6:31
Prepping food cutting food and even eating out of if I want a divided plate, so I
6:38
Think this is gonna be a great addition because it's stainless steel as well and stainless steel is the perfect metal for cooking over an open
6:43
fire, I think Titanium is pretty awesome, but you can't beat stainless. So
6:54
And really only the additional items are gonna have is is my heavy cover spork, which I love
7:00
and Then this little stainless steel spatula now, I don't know where I got this at I've had this for years
7:07
It probably came in a cook set of some sort, but it's perfect because it has a nice edge to it
7:13
So I can flip eggs and flip meat on that pan I
7:18
Think that's these are gonna work out great as tools All right, so fires going we need to get our food cooking
7:30
I Hear that wood it's wet wet wet wood. I Think I almost need like a second position the poles
7:44
That way I could get a bigger fire under here I Definitely would like to get this maybe a little bit higher off the fire
8:03
Okay, so Today I'm gonna cook some chili just some Hormel chili
8:13
And then I've got some sausage To go in it Use a little red-eyed hog beef at this is a
8:43
Something I can put on my pan Grease it up
9:06
Let's put on your lips It's a multi-purpose item Hot fires doing good now. Like I said, the woods wet still I'm on the rain this week, but
9:38
I Since this is an uncoated stainless steel, I don't have to worry about scratching the Teflon surface with my knife
10:00
I can actually cut right in the pan I
11:27
Have fire is hot. I can feel that thing reflecting back at me. It's really the reflectors doing a great job I
11:48
Wish I had some more coals, but I make do with what I got I
12:02
Think it helped to have a second position A
12:45
Really nice bed of coals now I
13:09
Burned a little bit not bad right up there on the edge Hmm
13:34
Delicious This mess kid is a frying pan is an awesome idea
13:53
Eat right out of it has a nice long handle. You don't burn yourself
13:59
Stuff cooks nice line it quickly And it has a lid so
14:07
I'm not gonna clean this up today Out here in the woods. I'm gonna take it home clean it so I can put the lid on it
14:12
And it's not gonna get all my gear dirty just nice multi-purpose item I
14:19
I spend money on what kinds of fancy skillets when you use this
14:34
You know another item that um Another item that I mentioned in one of my videos is this bushcraft essentials grill I
14:43
Haven't tried this thing yet. I never got a chance to use it this last weekend. I was camping, but I brought it with me today
14:49
and I Think it's going to fit the new Stove that I just built perfectly. Let's check it out
15:04
Look at that Perfect
15:14
Yep, and I can fry meat on there. That's pretty nifty All
15:50
Right guys, hope you enjoyed the video today. It was a lot of fun Putting that little stove together and cooking with it and seeing it actually perform really well
16:00
Reflected heat great Heated up the food fast and then the addition of that little grill that I have
16:06
Being able to throw that on there was just a bonus So it all just kind of came together today and worked out perfectly and then the footprint that it left
16:14
It didn't scorch the earth underneath it So as badly as it would if the fire was directly on the ground, so definitely protected it
16:23
Which so it may be you know, it may be useful for people out in the drier countries out west
16:28
but around here You know, the ground is so wet all the time. It really doesn't matter as much but I
16:35
did like using the reflector and getting the The pan up off the flames giving a place to set it and it's just a nice little contained area work great. So
16:47
Alright guys. Well, we'll see you next time on the prepared wander Oh, and as always, please like subscribe share and thanks for watching. I appreciate it
