Sumerian deluge

Sumerian deluge In ancient Sumerian mythology, the great god Anu was worried about the chaos on Earth caused by the restless humans. He summoned the god Enlil to help him come up with a solution. Enlil suggested a great flood, which would wipe out the humans and start fresh. Anu agreed, and the two gods set out to create the great deluge. The humans, however, were warned of the coming flood by the wise Utnapishtim, who had been given the knowledge by the god Ea. Utnapishtim was instructed to build a great boat and gather his family and animals aboard to survive the flood. When the rains began to fall, the boat rode the waves and saved Utnapishtim and his loved ones from the deluge. After the waters receded, Anu and Enlil were pleased with their work and rewarded Utnapishtim with eternal life. The great deluge had cleansed the world and allowed for a new beginning.
