Welcome back to the Career Success Academy
0:12
We've got a good video for you today. If you've been here before, you'll remember I'm Steve
0:21
And our mission here is to give you the information when you need it, that's going to help you
0:28
get that next job. Well, today we have a very important video for you
0:36
What's the video? In this video, we're taking all of the knowledge from all the other videos
0:44
We're going to talk about tips and techniques from hiring managers, from the hiring managers
0:52
to help you get that interview. First and foremost, it's very, very important for you to be prepared
1:04
Most hiring managers are going to tell you that preparation is the key
1:09
Now, this is very important because when we're talking about preparation, we're talking about research
1:17
Research the company. If you have the opportunity and you know who's going to be interviewing you, you can look
1:23
on LinkedIn and see what you can glean from that person, how long have they been there
1:28
what does that profile say about that particular person, what does your research tell you about
1:33
the company, what does the job description tell you about the job, and what questions
1:38
are you going to have. Very important. Number two, to be prepared
1:44
Have your questions. You want to know certain things about this particular job based on the information that
1:52
you're gathering. This is the way you show your interest. This is the way you show your enthusiasm
2:00
Very important. And then, just like you tailored your resume, you want to make sure you tailor your history
2:13
Prepare the stories, practice the stories, practice what you put on your resume so that
2:20
you know yourself inside and out, your stories are fresh. Maybe practice on some friends
2:29
Practice in front of the mirror. Practice if you've got a dog
2:33
Doesn't matter. They'll listen to you. And you know what? They're still your best friend
2:40
Most hiring managers will tell you what's important. Not only do we want you to be prepared, but we want you to make a good first impression
2:52
What's that old adage? You only get to make a first impression once, and yours has to be spot on
3:02
You've got to be friendly. You've got to dress appropriately. You've got to wear a good pair of shoes, for example
3:15
The way you walk, the way you talk, call that comfortability, call that confidence, call
3:22
that a dozen different things. Hiring managers will tell you that not only what you say, but how you look, how you act
3:32
how you carry yourself are all very, very important. What's the key to the first section and the second section now
3:44
Practice, practice, practice. Your first interview is not going to be as good as your third interview
3:53
You have to practice so that your first interview seems like your third interview
4:00
You want to be polished. You want to be comfortable. And you want to convey your enthusiasm for the job in everything you do, which is built
4:14
all around the hiring managers. What do they want to see and hear from you
4:23
We talked about making a good first impression. We talked about being prepared
4:29
And now we're going to be talking about how you can shine in that interview
4:35
Okay, you're answering the questions. You're in the interview. And this could be whether it's a virtual interview, it's a face-to-face interview, doesn't matter
4:49
Very important for you to answer the questions concisely. Answer the questions to the best of your ability, but keep your answers relatively short
5:04
Listen for follow-up questions. Very important. If they don't understand something, if they need clarification, they will ask you
5:13
If they don't ask you, you answered the question well. I will say show your enthusiasm
5:22
You're trying to convey to them that you want this job. So on one hand, you're saying, hey, here's why I'm qualified for this job
5:32
Here's why I'm the best person for this job. But your enthusiasm matches what your words say
5:40
What's the old adage? It's not so much what you say, but what you do or how you do it
5:46
That kind of thing. And very, very important. Stay polite, stay calm, no matter what the situation
5:55
You forgot what you were going to say, you said the wrong thing, you made a mistake
6:00
It's okay. You're supposed to be a little bit nervous. Still show that enthusiasm
6:07
And then you have to be prepared to adapt to the style of the person asking you the questions
6:20
Let me say that again. No two interviewers are going to be the same
6:29
So you have to be prepared as if the hiring manager had never seen another person, had
6:35
never been in an interview before, or this is their 10,000th interview, and they're just
6:41
kind of bored with the whole interviewing process. You, your job is to make them remember you and to make them want to ask you more questions
6:57
They like you. Remember, likability is a big thing. Oh my goodness, this is the most important part of the entire interview process
7:07
Closing the interview. Closing the interview. What is it that hiring managers want from you
7:15
They want you to ask good questions. They want to know whether or not you're interested
7:22
They want to know if they're going to be wasting their time with you
7:26
They want to know that you're interested in the position. How do they know this
7:31
It's by the way that you're talking. It's the way that you're asking questions
7:38
And it's also your body language. Don't forget that. There's a difference if you show your interest in the way that you're sitting there, for example
7:47
And then most important to all, when you're done with the interview, you've left the room
7:54
you're back home, send a thank you note. That thank you note is critical and you want to send it within the first 24 hours, whether
8:08
it's the weekend or it's a work day, it doesn't matter. I hope that these tips were helpful for you
8:18
