BLACK SMOKEY EYE TUTORIAL 2022 FOR BEGINNERS DARK SKIN AFFORDABLE DRUGSTORE MenaAdubea
Dec 13, 2023
I hope that you find this smokey eyeshadow tutorial helpful. NOTE - add more eyeshadow to the crease. My crease did "crease" at the the end of the night, so just a note on that for ya! But this is still a fun, quick way to get a smokey eye.

Now, I'm gonna use one of my favorite eyeliners from Revlon. This is the So Fierce Vinyl Eyeliner
0:35
and the color is Midnight Mystery. I love this a lot. I use this all of the time in my waterline
0:41
It gives a satin finish. You're gonna find eyeliners that are gonna give you a matte finish
0:44
I don't like them, they're boring. I love the satin finish to this. This is also very creamy
0:48
I can't stand when eyeliners require you to do a lot of tugging and pulling. It's just too much for me
0:52
It requires too much. It's irritating, okay? So I wanted to show you how to do a quick, smoky eye
0:56
with this. Honestly, when you see me do this, you're gonna be like
1:00
oh, I don't even need to put powder on top. You really don't. But I like to because it helps the longevity of it
1:05
But let me just show you, okay? Very creamy, nice and dark. Linking everything below, of course
1:10
Now, this is obviously a product that I can use as an eyeliner for the top of my eye
1:15
in my waterline, like I said. And then I like to use it as a base
1:19
for my smoky eye, baby. So go easy with it. This is very dark
1:23
We are sticking right here where the eyelid is. No need to go so far
1:29
because what we're gonna do is take your finger. I like to go with a ring finger because it just makes the most sense
1:34
It's like more gentle. Okay, now let's begin to blend this. Now, it's sticky, which I like, okay
1:41
And that helps when you apply your black eyeshadow on top for it to actually adhere to your eye
1:48
Now let's use this to bring the color up into the crease a little bit more
1:53
Going easy with this because it's black. So if you get this on your face
1:58
as you can see, I've done my face already, then it's a wrap, baby
2:02
You're done for, okay? Bringing this into the crease little by little
2:06
This is so tacky. Now I'm taking a little bit, even when I bent my eye, it's sticking
2:12
Now I'm gonna take a little bit more and go into the crease because it's not moving as much as I need it to
2:17
This doesn't need to be so perfect, just enough to get it there. And then use your finger to blot
2:23
So you're pressing, moving, press, move, press, move, so that you're putting it where you want it to go, okay
2:28
Now I'm gonna move quickly because like, you know, just go quickly. Now you're gonna see some spots
2:33
That's okay because you're gonna put an eyeshadow on top of this
2:37
Say you have a small eyelid and you did this real quick and easy. Maybe you won't feel like you need to put something on top
2:43
but I like to go on top because this is sticky. When I open my eyes and close it, it sticks a little bit
2:48
So I don't want all that, you know, during the day. So here we go
2:52
Same on this side. Let's do it. Now, of course, we'll make sure that there are no harsh lines
2:59
Get inside here where the tear duct is. Get it into your crease area
3:04
but don't worry too much about that because in the crease, we're gonna put transition colors
3:08
We've gone over the transition colors and why we need them in our eyeshadow tutorial
3:13
step-by-step video if you watched that. All right, now let's just leave this
3:16
because to me, this is good right here. Now to set all of it because like I said
3:20
it's real sticky. Any black eyeshadow will do, honestly. I'm just taking this one from Maven Beauty
3:27
It's a quad palette, the black one right here. I obviously use this a lot. Gonna be looking down because my face is done
3:33
I don't wanna mess this up, okay? Now let's pat the black onto the eye
3:38
and let it adhere to this sticky eyeliner. Do you see that
3:42
And when it adheres, this is gonna go from looking dewy to being matte
3:47
Now, if you don't already know, if you wanted to take any eyeshadow color
3:51
and make it darker than it actually is, a black base is still called for
3:57
If you wanted to make sure that your eyeshadow color pops, it's bright
4:00
then you wanna use a white eyeshadow base, okay? So look at that, a nice matte black eyeshadow
4:07
Now make sure you mattify all of it. I'm gonna make sure I get right close to my waterline
4:11
to make sure all of it is covered. All of the eyeliner that we use
4:16
we want all of it to be covered, okay? Okay, now the other side
4:21
Okay, now I am the kind of person that likes to bring my smoky eye into the front of my brow, okay
4:26
That's just a technique that I love. Makeup artists love to do it, baby, okay? That's just what we do
4:31
Now we have the black down. It looks a little crazy, but let's bring it all in together
4:35
We need to get our transition colors. So let me grab a drugstore palette, you know
4:40
It'll still help us get what we need, hi. I'm gonna use the Milani Ungilded Most Loves Matte Palette
4:47
And we're looking down to blend all of this out, okay? I'm gonna use Cinnamon Spice first
4:52
The kind of brush that I'm using is this shape because we don't want it to spread too wide
4:57
but we want it to be enough to cover a wide area quickly. Right, we're not gonna use a small brush
5:02
and be here all day. So Cinnamon Spice right here. And now very lightly
5:07
I'm applying this between the black and my brow bone. I'm also tapping off the excess
5:13
and wiping my brush onto my tissue in front of me to take off any product and further blend if needed
5:21
So do this very softly to blend this out and see how I'm going into the front of the brow
5:27
and then toward the outer part and then feathering it up that way, okay
5:31
We're gonna build up the intensity here, but first I wanna lay down this color right here
5:37
And honestly and truly, this looks so good that I don't even think I need to do any more
5:41
but I want to intensify the black. I'm still seeing it shiny
5:45
It doesn't bother me. The black is not so matte. So the fact that I had an eyeliner underneath all of this
5:52
is making the eyeshadow look satin. And I actually like that. But let's go over it a little bit more just because, okay
6:00
I'm gonna blur out this edge right here with some more of this Cinnamon Spice
6:04
which is a reddish brown. Very lightly blending into that. Now let's do the same thing on the other side
6:12
Wiping off the excess, grab more powder, because with wiping off the brush
6:16
you're getting the black off to make sure that you're just putting that Cinnamon Spice in the crease
6:21
Okay, so now I'm looking to make sure that it's all even. You know what I'm saying
6:26
And you do wanna take some more of the black to go over the eyelid to make sure
6:32
that it hasn't been wiped off. So just pat. How's it look
6:36
Come here and let me know, girl. What you thinking about it? Let me know
6:40
Now I'm gonna ombre the bottom of the eyelid. I'm gonna take the Cinnamon Spice color. Again, it's a reddish brown, underneath the eye first
6:47
because we're gonna build up. I don't wanna go from black and then go backward
6:51
Not underneath the eye. A little Cinnamon Spice first, right here. Always tapping off the excess
6:57
And then I'm gonna start off by putting this eyeliner, the same one, inside my waterline first
7:03
before I smudge it under my eye. I just sharpened it. And here I'm just isolating my inner eye
7:10
to make the application a lot easier. This is a pair of tweezers that I'm using to do that
7:15
Just a little trick that I love to do to make applying my eyeliner easier. Now, that is a simple way to apply your eyeliner
7:20
but I want it to be smudged. So now that I've already gotten it inside my eye
7:24
let's go on the skin some more. So now I'm underneath my eyelashes
7:28
with some of this eyeliner. And we're gonna smudge all of that out, but right now it's just in place
7:33
So first, in the waterline, black is so dark, but you could totally do this with a gray
7:39
You could totally do this with a dark brown. If you wanna practice it out in the beginning
7:43
but black, you gotta go really easy with and be careful because it's really dark
7:48
and it can look real crazy real soon. That, I mean, I have been there
7:52
So now with my flat liner brush, I'm gonna smudge all of this out. There's some gaps in the liner underneath my eye
8:01
and you can only tell when you're looking close. I wanna fix it, meaning I can see my skin
8:05
I need to fix that. And I could put eyeshadow underneath this, but I like the satin look of the eyeliner under my eye
8:12
So I'm not gonna set this part with the black eyeshadow, but you could do that, of course, if you wanted it to look more matte and not satin
8:18
And by satin, I mean shiny. It looks like shiny, okay? But I like that. Now, you know I always highlight
8:23
That's a must for me. Using the Milani All-Inclusive Eye Cheek Face Palette
8:28
I'm gonna highlight in my eye. I'm gonna use this gold color. It just goes with the brown and blacks
8:34
that I have on right now. So right up in here, that's a must
8:38
Wiping off the excess on my paper towel in front of me. And now I'm just blending into the black eyeshadow
8:44
to make sure that there are no harsh lines, okay? Now, because I already have on a black, smokey eye
8:50
there's no need for an eyeliner. It's not gonna show unless I were to be doing a wing
8:54
but come on now. What's the science of you doing a wing? Girl, please. I can't do it
8:57
There is no need, okay? So top lashes, I'm gonna do mascara from Maybelline
9:01
This is a lash sensational one. You ain't gonna see this either
9:05
but you are gonna see my lashes. And I always wear mascara before lashes
9:11
That is muy importante. Now with this mascara, honestly, the older it is
9:15
the thicker it gets, the thicker it makes the eyelashes look so I've grown to like this
9:19
It's almost done. Okay, let me get my lashes. ♪♪♪ All right, let me know what you think about this look
9:31
I think it was an easy way to do a black, smokey eye. You might think it was a lot because of the crease colors
9:36
but honest to God, to me, okay? I used to be a makeup artist, okay
9:40
You need to transition your eye, especially when you are working with a smokey eye
9:47
Please, for the love of God, transition with some transition colors. I just used one, like I said, Cinnamon in that palette
9:54
Sometimes I add some orange to give it a sunset, some burgundy
9:59
It depends on how I'm feeling. I kept it simple to me in this look, but I want you to comment and let me know
10:03
if you felt like it was easy to follow along with. Do you like doing smokey eyes
10:08
When's the last time you did one? What colors do you normally use? Because honestly, you can do a smokey eye with a dark red
10:13
a dark purple, a dark blue, a dark green, a black, and even a brown, okay
