Hi there, my name is Paul and this is my girlfriend Gabriel and we're out sailing in Norway on our Albin Vega sailboat
0:08
In the previous episode we sailed down the Norwegian south coast, arriving to the town of Ryser
0:18
In this episode we invite you to follow our journey from Ryser as we continue towards our final destination of Christian San
0:30
are optimal. We have a perfect wind coming from the west and we're just cruising down the
0:35
southern coast of Norway, about six, seven knots of speed. And today it's going to be a long day
0:42
of sailing. But first, some breakfast. And for breakfast we got porridge with brown cheese on and some
0:51
homemade blueberry jam. We love long days of sailing. So with these excellent sailing conditions
1:00
We hoist all sails and decide to set our course further south towards the town of Grimsta
1:15
And after 10 hours of sailing that day, we arrived to a beautiful natural harbor
1:28
We just arrived to a natural harbor. just outside Grimsta and I think we found paradise We tied Lira up to the rocks and started to snorkel and swim in the crystal clear water
1:42
It's hard to describe the pure enjoyment of being in such a place, so close to the sea but still
1:48
so peaceful and quiet. As always, we set out to explore our little island, climbing up to the top
1:56
looking for a good viewpoint. For dinner, we had some delicious sausages
2:12
enjoyed up on the rocks just above Lira, followed by some grilled mackerel we had caught that same day
2:19
Life's good when you're sailing in Norway. We just spent a night on anchor and now we're coming into another coastal town here
2:29
which is Grimsta. And we're just heading through the archipelago and the rocks here now
2:35
It's quite narrow and quite shallow as well. You can see the bottom under the sailboat
2:43
And after successfully squeezing past some other boats, we get the town of Grimsta ahead of us
2:51
Like many of the older coastal towns along the southern coast of Norway
2:55
it started with white wooden houses. Grimsta is known for attracting big boats to its guest harbor but we managed to find a spot and head into town It a cute little town with a relaxed vibe and plenty of visitors this time of year Most of them are Norwegians enjoying their summer vacation
3:16
There's a lot of cozy streets with small shops and narrow alleyways taking you through town
3:22
Up above is the church and you can find some nice views of Grimsta
3:28
Around town you can see signs of the famous Norwegian playwriter Henrik Ipsen
3:34
That's because he lived here in his younger years, studying to become a pharmacist
3:39
And this was the house he had his training as an apprentice
3:42
Grimsta is also known for its delicious schoolebrough, schoolbread. And we pick up a few
4:00
Today is a bit of an exciting day because we're going into a
4:04
area that is called Blinlejah doesn't really translate well to English but this is a
4:11
place that I've always heard a lot about and I wanted to go and it's basically an inland water
4:16
passage we're just north of christian san a bit south of lillessan and we're going to follow this
4:23
inland water passage now for 12 miles 20 kilometers and even though it's quite windy
4:28
and wavy out in the ocean today it'll be fairly nice and smooth
4:34
sailing in here. Brindlaya is a saltwater fjord passage that is protected from the open sea by an elongated archipelago of scleries and larger islands
4:49
There are several narrow gaps as part of the waterway, some of them only 10 meters, 33 feet wide
4:57
The whole passage is clearly marked with buoys and some lighthouses along the way
5:02
Other boats are usually very mindful and keep to their side to avoid any collisions
5:09
You also find a lot of cabins of different sizes in this area
5:15
Many of them with a price tag that makes them too expensive for most people
5:20
But they're surely nice to look at. Having the wind in from the north, we were able to sail the whole passage
5:28
It takes a lot of concentration, but after a couple of hours we're out on the other side
5:33
suddenly in much windier conditions. The goal for this year's summer sailing was to sail to Christian San
5:48
When we get out of Brynlaja and head further south, we realize we're getting close
5:53
And it does not take long before Christian San is on the horizon
5:58
Gabriel and I want to thank you for following our journey down the Norwegian south coast
6:03
For us, this has been an epic adventure and we love sharing it with you
