Classic Beef Stew:
This comforting stew is reminiscent of cozy pubs in the British Isles. It’s loaded with tender beef, potatoes, and savory spices.
Ingredients:
1 tablespoon shortening (or vegetable oil)
1 pound boneless beef chuck (tip or round roast, cut into 1-inch cubes)
3 cups water
1 ½ teaspoons salt
0.12 teaspoon pepper
2 medium carrots (cut into 1-inch pieces)
1 large unpeeled potato (cut into 1 ½-inch pieces)
1 medium green bell pepper (cut into 1-inch pieces)
1 medium stalk celery (cut into 1-inch pieces)
1 small onion (chopped, 1/4 cup)
1 dried bay leaf
½ cup cold water
2 tablespoons Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
Instructions:
Heat shortening or oil in a Dutch oven.
Brown the beef cubes in batches.
Add onions, garlic, and balsamic vinegar to the pan.
