because it has solid front rear axles
0:02
you get a lot more wheel travel so when
0:04
the one wheel's up the other one this is
0:07
pretty extreme you'll get some lift
0:09
let's get over here so we can see it
0:10
better better shot so look at the front
0:13
wheels at how they they get punched up
0:15
see that wheel one's shoved way up in
0:17
the whe well the other one is all the
0:19
way still maintaining traction that is
0:21
articulation the
0:23
definition all four wheels on the ground
0:26
all four wheels the entire time now
0:27
watch this oh I love the
0:28
angles what you
0:31
do so here's a case where you're losing
0:34
significant traction look at that 3 ft
0:36
off the
0:58
ground
1:00
[Music]
1:07
that works and so I've got it in four
1:09
loow now I do not have this this Jeep is
1:12
also equipped with a rear Locker too it
1:14
really just make sure that you get 100%
1:16
of the torque to the rear wheels 100% of
1:18
the time not sure we're going to need it
1:20
today but if we do we've got another
1:22
level of capability we can also
1:26
employ I just took a ram Rebel through
1:29
here so
1:31
that was impressive for a big pickup
1:33
that is a big pickup and
1:36
um it's got a little more ground
1:38
clearance but uh it always comes down to
1:40
traction too right
1:43
so and the nice thing about this car is
1:45
you can see where you're going
1:51
[Music]
1:57
yes that's the key is just keep momentum
2:00
let the Jeep figure it out the jeep has
2:02
a very sophisticated it's going to
2:03
figure out which wheel has the absolute
2:05
most traction and it's going to continue
2:07
to move it around the power until it
2:09
finds that traction so always a little
2:11
bit of forward momentum is all you need
2:13
to to keep
2:16
going keep your keep just modulate the
2:18
throttle a little bit it'll go right
2:21
through
2:28
it and that's the great part about a
2:31
trail hog I mean this thing's got some
2:33
the serious hardware and Mechanicals
2:35
underneath but it's got a full
2:36
compliment of skid light so transmission
2:38
your oil pan your front rear death
2:40
everything's completely covered so any
2:42
banging and booming doesn't T it does
2:46
not D
2:49
it cuz the water's a little deeper than
2:51
maybe what it appears on the
2:55
surface yeah I wasn't sure if I was
2:57
supposed to be taking the redel through
2:58
it or not but apparently I was
3:00
I might have been overly cautious
3:03
too no I think we have a little extra
3:06
water in here today with uh some rain
3:08
overnight but that's
3:25
[Music]
3:28
okay
3:56
hopefully he'll go over the articulation
3:58
yeah that would be nice cuz inside the
4:01
car you go oh that's neat the wheels are
4:02
coming off I was behind the Wrangle came
4:04
out really early to look at it oh
4:05
they're about 3 ft off the ground so
4:08
it's pretty
4:16
dramatic I have to say that turn is a
4:18
lot harder than the rebel I think than
4:20
yeah I was SC to ask you was that a like
4:22
a four-point turn you did or I just went
4:25
straight on through it I must picked out
4:28
the trail pretty well I was surprised
4:31
yeah I would have thought that would
4:32
been a multi multi multi- point
4:36
turn you know lightweight again lot like
4:39
Renegade short wheelbase lightweight
4:42
good traction management system
4:44
everything's a
4:46
sled so if I was to get say a base model
4:50
Cherokee or Renegade it would be
4:52
basically the same body right I mean you
4:55
don't reinforce the body it's the skid
4:58
plates and yeah a lot of has to do with
5:00
suspension and then the skid plates and
5:03
in this case you've got the rear Locker
5:05
so it's it's all purpose built so the
5:07
additional content you'll get on
5:08
Trailhawk is just pure capability pure
5:11
capability even the hood decal you go
5:13
well okay it's a it's it's a decal how
5:16
is that capable but you know in Moab for
5:18
example where we go every year if you
5:20
get on some of the obstacles you're on a
5:22
35 Dee incline in the sun hit your hood
5:25
um I mean you get massive glare so it
5:28
just away the clear so it's actually
5:31
very functional yeah it's an aesthetic
5:33
piece and it is a a styling queue of all
5:34
the trail Hogs but it's also very
5:36
functional but yeah you're right it's a
5:38
suspension you get a higher ride height
5:39
so the Renegade and the Cherokee are
5:41
about an inch higher than the the other
5:43
versions ride height different tires um
5:47
rear Locker in this case and the skid
5:49
blades that's a and the FAS is different
5:52
as well too so you have a a better
5:53
approach angle for Steep obstacles so
5:55
you don't hit you can get you know a
5:58
higher to approach angle on both both of
5:59
the Renegade and the Cherokee so
6:02
slightly different look but most of the
6:04
story is in the
6:06
hardware I think one of the issues is uh
6:09
when you do the articulate when you do
6:11
the test where you lift up one wheel and
6:13
you drop the other wheel
6:15
yes that's where the body strength and
6:18
the design come
6:20
in it is and that's where a stiff
6:22
chassis uh makes a huge difference
6:24
because you need that you got to be able
6:26
to contain
6:28
it uh
6:33
[Music]
6:41
okay just just not give it enough
6:45
gas I didn't want to make this thing
6:48
Lurch cuz that that's not that tricky
6:51
right there but better to be
6:57
cautious
