hey everybody this is motels Dave and
0:02
I'm here to talk about the removable
0:05
glass Jeep and the idea behind this is
0:08
that you've got a Jeep and it's got a
0:09
fixed roof because it's the new upcoming
0:12
battery electric Recon and you want it
0:14
to feel more like a Wrangler inside so
0:16
what can you do you can let people take
0:18
out the window glass and this could also
0:20
be handy for the Wrangler itself so
0:23
engineers at Jeep or let's be accurate
0:26
FCA us have pented removable window
0:29
system and this lets the windows be
0:31
removed with ease or relative ease
0:33
compared to doing it normally and you
0:35
can even put them back in again so the
0:38
patent was filed on January 31st 2023
0:42
and has finally been published August
0:44
1st 2024 and it comes to us via tomz
0:48
alar.com and the inventors are listed as
0:51
being Michigan residents Jason Schultz
0:54
David panala and sahas Shakil Lam so the
0:57
basic idea behind this invention is that
1:00
you can have the windows firmly secured
1:02
by these rather complicated rotation
1:05
latches they've got a lot of parts it's
1:08
one handle is coupled to the latch a
1:11
wave washer is coupled to the handle
1:13
rotating the handle moves the wave
1:15
washer in and out of Engagement
1:17
releasing or capturing the window I'm
1:20
sure that you've seen latches of this
1:22
type somewhere else these are unusually
1:24
complicated I think because they have to
1:26
be very very precise in how much
1:30
pressure they apply so it's a very
1:32
clever setup especially because the
1:33
Recon looks as though it's meant to be a
1:35
rock crawler and a two offroader like
1:37
the Wrangler but not as hardcore so it's
1:40
likely to have a long travel independent
1:42
suspension removable doors and now
1:45
removable windows but a fixed roof and
1:47
the reason for both the independent
1:49
suspension and the fixed roof is to take
1:51
out some of the downsides of the
1:53
Wrangler in terms of its weight and in
1:55
terms of the finicki uh steering system
1:59
which if you're not lucky and as it
2:01
wears can lead to what they call death
2:04
wobble unless you detect the wobble
2:06
early and you get it fixed so there's a
2:09
lot of benefits of an independent
2:11
suspension in an off-road vehicle if it
2:14
has a long enough travel it can actually
2:16
be a better suspension in many cases
2:20
than a uh solid axle I realize that some
2:23
people will be very upset that I'm
2:25
saying this but I have this on authority
2:27
of Jeep engineers and one of the
2:30
advantages is that the interior gets
2:32
shaken around a lot less and it's much
2:35
much better for on-road handling and why
2:37
I think that we all know that jeep
2:38
wranglers have to be very capable the
2:40
fact of the matter is that most of the
2:42
time most Wranglers are not driven
2:44
off-road they're driven onroad the fixed
2:47
roof would be a major benefit because it
2:49
brings body stiffness without adding a
2:51
massive amount of weight and one reason
2:53
for the wrangler's weight is to prevent
2:55
Body Flex without a roof being able to
2:58
take out the glass could be the next
3:00
best thing to going roofless so this is
3:02
really a great idea and frankly I think
3:04
it would be handy on the Wrangler itself
3:06
in many use cases so that's the new
3:09
invention this is motel's Dave signing
