0:21
neon hi my name is Dave I'm from alar
0:24
and I'm here to introduce you to the
0:25
Fiat
0:28
500c
0:32
this is a convertible version of the new
0:34
Fiat 500 and it's made by Chrysler in
0:37
Mexico at the same Factory that used to
0:39
make the PT Cruiser and still makes the
0:41
Dodge Journey it's an interesting car
0:44
because it's a retro car based on an
0:46
older model that most Americans have
0:48
never seen before and the ones who have
0:51
seen it have usually seen it in the
0:52
movie cars which is animated where the
0:55
Fiat 500 played a fairly small part so
0:58
we've got it here and it's got old all
1:00
sorts of retro styling and these
1:01
detailed tail lamp assemblies on the
1:04
left hand you have the usual tail lights
1:06
and brake lights but here you have Amber
1:08
turn signals hidden behind clear glass I
1:11
think that they look better they're also
1:13
more functional in front it's also got
1:15
modern headlights very well focused
1:18
assembly When you mention the size of
1:20
the engine a lot of Americans will think
1:22
of squirrels running
1:25
around it's actually got pretty good
1:27
power it's a 1.4 L engine it puts out
1:30
about 100 horsepower a little bit more
1:32
when you look at an engine of this size
1:35
you would normally expect that it would
1:36
make very very little horsepower at
1:38
first and then as you really drive it
1:40
high then it would start to go somewhere
1:42
with this engine you find that they can
1:44
spread out the power much more evenly
1:47
you can see that the access points are
1:48
marked out in yellow you can easily
1:50
reach the dip stick here and the
1:54
batteries right here if you need to jump
1:56
start somebody or get jump started
1:57
yourself now the regular Fiat 500 as a
2:00
hatchback on this one they couldn't do a
2:02
hatchback
2:03
because everything has to fall down so
2:06
instead we have a traditional tiny
2:08
little
2:09
trunk now somebody said that you could
2:11
fit in a bunch of golf clubs in here I
2:14
don't know if I'd like to try
2:16
[Music]
2:19
that moving
2:22
on for the main feature we have the drop
2:26
top all right it's a two Touch system to
2:29
up the roof Touch number
2:33
one it just goes neatly down the track
2:36
folding itself up as it
2:38
goes and that takes you almost all the
2:41
way now if you drive around like this
2:44
you will find that the wind buffets you
2:46
and hurts your ears as the air pressure
2:47
in the cabin builds up
2:50
so you press it again and now you
2:53
actually have a
2:55
convertible now suppose that the top is
2:57
down and you want to get into the trunk
2:59
you lift up the latch but instead of the
3:01
trunk coming
3:02
[Music]
3:04
up the roof moves out of your way and
3:07
then it opens up the trunk for
3:09
you unfortunately when you put the trunk
3:11
back down it doesn't fold the top back
3:13
away but in the meantime at least it
3:15
keeps you from damaging the top by
3:17
opening up the trunk at a stupid
3:21
time this is a car that keeps you very
3:24
nicely connected to the road in case
3:26
where it feels faster than it is this is
3:28
a great City car and it's a great
3:30
Suburban car I don't know that it's a
3:32
car that I would choose to drive across
3:33
the country it's the same connectivity
3:36
that you feel with the road that feels
3:37
really good around town doesn't feel
3:40
quite so good after you've spent about
3:42
40 minutes in it on the highway then you
3:44
start to say you know what would be nice
3:46
is standing on non vibrating dry land
3:49
for a while this is the fun part is
3:51
going
3:52
around is little tight little turns you
3:55
can feel what you're doing it really
3:56
does Corner very well and it doesn't
3:59
punish you as much as you would think
4:01
the ride I mean you can probably see us
4:03
bouncing
4:04
around and there is that but it's not as
4:08
stiff as you'd think in this car it's
4:11
it's pushing so you can hit a pretty
4:13
sharp bit of broken pavement and you're
4:16
not going to get hurt on it and it's
4:18
something that the Fiat 500 really
4:19
really excels
