Comparing the 2024 Camp Jeep to the Ford Off-Roadeo at the New York Auto Show on a rainy day—which is tougher on the cars? Which is more amusing for the attendees? Does Ford come out with a weaker set of tests but a stronger sales experience?

so you can hear the speakers blaring in
0:03
the background and hear just some
0:05
Wranglers and Gladiators going around
0:08
the track and you can even see the rain
0:10
coming right in front of you and they
0:12
have other vehicles when it's not
0:15
raining quite so much you can see that
0:18
that first test is using wood and I
0:21
guess it's mainly a test of traction and
0:28
clearance when it's not raining they
0:30
will have Grand Cherokees and maybe
0:33
other Jeeps it's hard to tell in the
0:35
past they've had Renegades and Compasses
0:37
and Cherokees this year I don't see
0:40
those also going
0:43
around and you get a nice view of the
0:45
underside of the rangler at least as
0:47
they go over this first mass now around
0:49
in the back you can see there there's a
0:51
nice what looks like a 30 35 degree
0:54
angle and It Go Freight from that up
0:55
onto this breakover
0:57
ramp and these are the kind of few
1:00
tricks that look relatively easy but
1:03
they have been known to literally break
1:06
vehicles that had pretentions to being
1:07
serious 4x4 Vehicles
1:11
before and that's one thing about a Jeep
1:14
even the relatively tame ones like the
1:17
Renegades you know their bodies can take
1:19
an awful lot of
1:21
[Music]
1:28
punishment
1:30
[Music]
1:35
[Applause]
1:39
and now we're going to go over onto the
1:41
Ford Broncos side and see what that's
1:43
[Music]
1:48
like in some ways Ford was much cleverer
1:51
than Jeep and how they constructed these
1:58
because you can hear that there's a lot
2:00
more noise made by their barriers than
2:03
by the ones that jeap is using and also
2:05
of course they have those fancy LED
2:07
things coming off the antenna and here
2:09
you have this is actually a very cool
2:12
display and we're just right now the
2:16
demonstrator is showing off the internal
2:18
features like
2:20
turning like the electronically
2:22
disconnecting sway bars which jeep has
2:24
had for a long time but Jeep doesn't
2:27
tell you about them really on the tour
2:30
and they don't make it clear they don't
2:31
go in and out of it like uh
2:34
demonstrators do the Jeep uh program
2:37
does get a lot of throughput they put
2:39
people through very
2:40
quickly but they don't necessarily all
2:43
you with what they can do whereas here
2:46
uh this is actually a very impressive
2:48
test uh and of course any Jeep will be
2:51
able to do this without much problem and
2:54
they used to demonstrate Renegades doing
2:55
it going up on two wheels balancing
2:58
going uh
3:00
Etc but it really shows you how that
3:03
long travel independent suspension
3:10
operates now of course it requires an
3:13
awful lot of body strength to get away
3:15
with this and it was funny to me because
3:18
when Jeep used to show it on Renegades I
3:21
uh I used to get Jeepers complaining
3:25
that the whole point of the Wrangler is
3:27
that all the wheels will always be on
3:29
the ground even in this case but what
3:32
they were showing with the Renegade was
3:34
that you'd still have traction enough to
3:36
get over the obstacle with two wheels in
3:39
the air and two wheels on the ground
3:42
either way it's a really impressive
3:46
demonstration of the kind of suspension
3:48
that some Jeepers have always wanted and
3:51
others have said would never
3:58
work
4:02
super so come back for more to still
