okay my name is jim i'm
0:09
here for oldpar.com i'm the original
0:11
owner of a 1984 chrysler 5th avenue
0:15
always
0:16
as far as garage kept the family and all
0:19
that all it's like
0:22
and uh from day one it always had the
0:24
lean burn uh chrysler warm-up problem
0:28
outside outside of that we haven't had
0:30
too many problems uh in the winter
0:33
though you had to walk it up about
0:35
three or four minutes
0:37
uh to get that rpm to step down
0:40
she's got original uh 30 000 miles
0:44
v8
0:45
2 barrel
0:47
and
0:49
body wise she's in perfect condition
0:52
wire wheels
0:56
amplified stereo option
0:59
i believe this is the gold package
1:02
i think with power every power antenna
1:05
uh power seats
1:07
uh leather interior naturally she's got
1:10
uh gray silver
1:14
leather interior
1:16
and
1:19
she gets
1:21
about 11 miles to the gallon
1:23
took it down to washington dc and i
1:26
out on open highway she got about 18 19
1:29
miles to the gallon
1:31
she's flying on the highway but around
1:33
town being a
1:34
fairly heavy beautiful
1:37
she dips down around 11.
1:40
miles per gallon
1:41
now how was she when she's feeling good
1:43
how is she to drive on the highway
1:46
she's great on the highway she's great
1:48
on the highways there's no problem there
1:51
the only thing i don't like about it is
1:53
the full-size uh
1:55
spare tire you got no little truck
1:59
but uh
2:00
never let us down
2:03
never stolen but she has the chrysler
2:05
little investigation
2:08
until she's warmed up
2:20
if this sounds loud to you that's
2:22
because it is the engine is actually
2:23
running at a whole 1600 rpm which it
2:26
does until the lean burn system decides
2:28
it's warmed up enough
2:29
or in this case until jim whacks it with
2:32
his palm and then it calms down to a
2:34
nice extremely smooth 800 rpm
2:37
and then it builds back up again to 1600
2:39
until he hits it again this is not
2:41
normal and in fact he's had the computer
2:43
checked out along with every other part
2:45
of this 30 000 mile engine and
2:47
everything checks out fine each time but
2:49
it never quite works right the lean burn
2:51
just
2:53
never really worked well from the
2:54
factory
2:56
the interior of the car almost makes
2:58
everything else worthwhile it's very
3:00
beautifully done with very nice
3:02
appointments that look good in person as
3:04
well as on film
3:05
all sorts of pretty buttons and dials
3:07
and knobs to get your attention all
3:10
sorts of switches
3:11
very comfortable seats when you sit down
3:13
in them
3:14
very nice exterior detailing with lots
3:16
of chrome and a crystal
3:19
pentastar on the hood
3:21
the trunk lock is hidden by a little
3:24
move out of the way pentastar and the
3:25
trunk itself is completely carpeted
3:27
including the spare tire
3:32
that's the original spare tire cover
3:34
over there on top of the spare tire
3:36
wedged in the back
3:38
by 10 watt
3:40
amplifier for the rear speaker
3:43
the 6x9
3:44
oval speaker is that the infinity or is
3:46
that before infinity no
3:48
before whatever the stock factory uh
3:51
amplifier is does every rear but it does
3:54
work
3:56
the fifth avenue is a very pretty car
3:58
when stationary it's also very pretty
4:00
and even regal when it moves from the
4:02
outside
4:04
it's a very smooth quiet motor
4:07
it's a very smooth quiet looking car
4:10
the nice thing about it is that they
4:13
really did make
4:14
the
4:15
basic old valiant chassis and suspension
4:18
and powertrain
4:21
look like a true luxury car inside and
4:23
out
4:24
the downside is that they didn't have
4:26
that much money to invest in upgrading
4:28
it
4:30
it really is mostly a reskinned volari
4:34
and the gas mileage remained fairly poor
4:36
through the end of its life
4:38
most of the
4:40
cars of this type that they built ended
4:42
up as police cars or taxis the dodge
4:44
diplomat and plymouth grand fury
4:47
sales of the fifth avenue were never all
4:49
that high but they remained high enough
4:50
to keep on making it for quite a while
4:53
overall it's a very pretty car a very
4:57
nice car
4:59
what they really needed was fuel
5:00
injection instead of the lean burn
5:02
system which really alienated many
5:04
customers many of them permanently
5:10
