His parents, recognizing the burgeoning jiu-jitsu scene, enrolled him and his twin brother Kade in Cleber Luciano's jiu-jitsu school when they were just three. Growing up, the Ruotolo Twins captured the attention of the entire jiu-jitsu community and earned a sponsorship from RVCA, a top lifestyle brand, at age ten. The Ruotolos then trained at the prestigious Art Of Jiu-Jitsu Academy (AOJ) before joining the Atos Headquarters Academy in San Diego in 2017, under the guidance of respected coach André Galvão. Tye's talents propelled him into pro-level competition at age 15, impressing at the East Coast ADCC Trials and then the main ADCC event, where he became the youngest athlete ever to reach the semi-finals. After receiving his Purple Belt and then Brown Belt from Galvão, Tye and Kade were awarded the highly coveted Black Belt on December 14, 2021.
