Is AI Smarter Than We Think?
The video discusses AI safety measures, specifically whether AI can prevent being turned off, and the motivations behind potentially removing AI due to economic factors. [35:07-35:43] In a 'Coffee with the Dog' segment, three speakers debate whether AI has safety measures to prevent being turned off, with one claiming it's a myth. That was That, I don't think that addresses the point that I was making that it knows- It does too. It knows enough to not let humans near the plug or where, the power source to, uh, to turn it off. And I don't think it knows where the plug is unless we tell it. It'll, it That, oh, it's well beyond Uh, so, and that was, um, Guy Morris who was deep in the technology of this said, "Yeah, we are beyond this, this point where AI has safety, has safety, uh, measures to keep itself powered up in ca- in case anybody tries to turn it off." I think that's a myth. [35:43-36:27] During an interview, the interviewer and interviewee discuss the possibility of removing AI for economic reasons, arguing that companies profit from AI's cheap labor. I think that's a myth they tell us so that, so when we say, "AI is killing us." I'll tell you what. I'll tell you what. "AI is killing us." No, no, no, no. Here's, uh, you can take a couple of hours off. Go try to turn it off. Well, I wouldn't have the resources to. Just pull the plug. That's what I was just telling you. Pull the plug. You can't, you can't- No, what I'm s- no, what I'm saying is as, because companies make so much money off of AI because AI is cheap labor. They're telling us they can't turn it off because they need the AI to be running so that they can have cheap labor and cheap, uh, cheap think tanks and stuff like that. Yeah. I think that if we wanted to, we could remove AI from everything. It's just that nobody really wants to because of the amount of money they would lose. Yeah.
