Embarrassing Gmail Name? You Can Now Change It

Did you create your Gmail account a long time ago and maybe you picked a name that's less than professional and doesn't really work for you anymore

Like say, n******gmail.com? Whoa! Yeah, I would not respond to that email if I saw it on a resume

Well, instead of creating an entirely new Gmail account with a separate name and separate logins and having to bounce back and forth

Google will now let you simply change your Gmail handle and here's how you do it. Simply go to your Google account on desktop or mobile

as of now you cannot do this within the gmail app but that could change in the future you're

going to hit manage account and then you're going to go over to personal info there's going to be a

lot of information there that you can change like your name your phone number your street address

and your recovery email but to change your email handle you're going to hit the button that simply

says email google is going to ask you to verify your identity at this point just so there's no

shenanigans going on but once you do you can easily change your name just like that there are a few

things to note though, once you do this, your old email address will not be deactivated and people

who email you at that email address can still do so and it'll just pop up in your inbox like normal

Also, according to Google, all of your data, like your emails, your photos, and all your Google Drive

files will be unaffected by the name change. But Google also says if there's anything critically

important to say in your Google Drive, you should probably back it up just in case. Now, not everyone

around the world has access to this name change feature. Google announced it a couple months ago

and it just rolled out to the US. So if you live somewhere else that doesn't have access yet

you might have to wait a few months, but it should happen eventually. And speaking of waiting

Google will only let you do this once every 12 months. So make sure you think long and hard

about what your new name is gonna be because if you change it and then a few months later

you're still unhappy with it, you have to wait around a while to change it again
