I don't care if your boss is toxic, your coworkers are, you are tired, you feel run down
0:08
Do not quit your job. You will regret it. Hi guys. My name is Lynch
0:14
Let's talk about looking for a job in South Africa in the year 2024
0:20
Guys, it's a nightmare. It's hell's pits. If you are employed right now, what I'll say is do not let someone
0:29
force you out of a job. I'm talking about those that are in toxic workplaces
0:33
Don't let another child take food from your table. Now, I saw an article written by Reuters
0:40
I believe they are a repeatable publication. Africa's most industrialized economy has one of the highest unemployment rates in the world
0:49
The agency said that the number of unemployed people totaled 7.933 million in January to March period
0:58
But in this sense, 7.93 million people were unemployed last year
1:08
Then we move on to say, okay, maybe the economy has improved
1:13
That is not true. We know the interest rates have been going up. We know groceries are choking us right now
1:20
The economy has since even gone worse than when that article was written
1:24
But I digress. I'm like, okay, so 7 million people are looking for jobs
1:31
Can one easily get a job? I'm always getting emails. People want jobs quick
1:38
They want to send a CV today, get a job tomorrow. It's possible, I guess, if you are like 10 years of experience in a highly competitive environment, and you are the only one with that special skill
1:49
But the majority of us are like me. We were just skating through life
1:54
So those stats, those predictions are not for us. Okay. All right
2:00
I went on Indeed. I believe Indeed is one of the biggest job-searching platforms right now that we have because they also offer employers the ability to post jobs for free
2:10
So that's why I'm talking about Indeed. So in the last 7 days, today is a Monday
2:18
I'm thinking I'm going to post this video on Tuesday. So in the last 7 days, really, and right now it's after hour, it's like 5.30 after work
2:25
That's when I'm filming this video. So a full day Monday has passed
2:29
So fresh new jobs have been posted, yada yada. In the last 7 days, including weekends, around 5,000 jobs have been posted
2:40
Only out of 7 million unemployed people, only 5,000 jobs have been posted
2:46
And remember, this is for just, this is for the entire country
2:51
I'm also talking about Justin Houghton, Justin Kieftan, this is for the entire country
2:55
Only 5,000 jobs. Maybe by the end of the week, maybe some jobs have been taken down, but still, guys, I don't think they'll even get to 10,000 jobs that have been posted for everyone
3:06
Mind you, this is including tenured people, super experienced people, tech jobs, entry level, only 5,000
3:17
Okay, I then narrowed it down to entry level, us that are looking for entry into the market, never with no experience
3:29
Guess how many jobs from that 5,000? 55. 55 jobs. One might say, Len, why did you not go to LinkedIn and check
3:40
A lot of the roles that are on LinkedIn, they already own indeed
3:44
And indeed is for like super experienced executive jobs mostly. Those are the ones that are posted there, so I'm not even going to talk about those
3:54
And those people are normally headhunted. They really go out to look for jobs
3:59
So guys, that is what I was saying. If you are in a toxic environment, I'm going to put this in quotes now, or whatever
4:04
Fight for your life, Ntase. Fight. Do not let anyone else kick you out of a job
4:12
Okay, so your boss is having unrealistic whatever. You gotta fight. No one is kicking you out of a job
4:20
You are bent out. Take leave. I've been seeing a trend of women that are expecting mothers pregnant, and they quit their jobs
4:30
Because people write me messages like, hey, Len, I was expecting my child and I quit my job. Why
4:35
Take maternity leave. And I think if your company doesn't give you maternity leave, you can take them to the CCMA
4:41
I would say rather take unpaid maternity leave. And after three months, you can go back to your job
4:48
Don't just quit because you're expecting a baby. Maybe I understand some people have got difficult pregnancies
4:53
Rather ask your employer, like, hey, I'll take unpaid leave. That way you know after three months, you are hoping back to your job
4:59
You don't want to be after three months, your baby is like, I don't say independent, but you know, you can take them to nursery school
5:07
You can leave them with another relative, some new support system, you know
5:13
And you are starting to look for a job because you will cry and it's not worth it
5:19
So anyway, guys, it's just something I thought, I feel like a preacher. You know how when they say, oh, I had something burning, something the Lord told me to tell you guys
5:28
Now it's not the Lord, but it was the employment munchkins. Let's say, Len, talk about this
5:33
Because I have been getting a lot of messages from people talking about quitting their jobs and all of that
5:37
I'm like, hey. I'm not even sure if I'm looking at my lens. Hey
5:44
OK, so I'm clearly heated about this. I do want to delve into other things such as entry level jobs
5:51
What are entry level jobs? What jobs can you do with just metric
5:57
Do such jobs even exist? Because guess what we have realized from TikTok
6:03
People have got degrees and they are not working. People have studied useless degrees
6:10
So obviously they are going to get the jobs that just say any degree, which are the jobs which just people with just metric are supposed to do. Right
6:20
So which means if you do not have metric, you are toast
6:24
So a piece of advice would be, guys, I always want to leave the videos with on a positive note
6:31
It's there is some hope. Right. One, if you do not have metric, like you failed some subjects, go and rewrite
6:40
I promise you no one will care. Go and rewrite. Pass. Apply for those bursaries
6:49
Get on to NASFAS. Get on your bag. Heat up your relatives
6:53
Who can sponsor you for what? Rewrite. That means in English. Two, varsity, college
7:00
Don't just pick any program. Check to see what is working. If when all fails, guys, go to the traditional stuff
7:08
Pick your teaching, nursing, accounting. I'm going to say stay away from law
7:20
What I've been saying, law is also another dumpster fire. People are not getting articles
7:25
You need a car. You need to be able to speak Afrikaans. There are just not enough articles for everybody to go around
7:30
Leave those. I guess in STEM subjects. That's what I'll say. Stick to the traditional STEM
7:36
Now, I'm not saying don't study other things. I studied other things and it didn't work out well for me
7:43
That's a chat for another day. But in today's economy, guys, be safe
7:50
Pick safe guaranteed degrees. If you've got a job, hold on to it
7:58
I'm not saying don't move jobs, guys. Always look for a job when you're already on a job
8:03
Never quit a job. The world can just smell how desperate you are
8:09
And they're not going to give you offers. What else, what else, what else
8:14
That's about it, guys. The job market is a dumpster fire right now
8:19
Do not do it. If you are employed, rather see a therapist
8:25
Have someone you decompress with. Don't tell your co-workers your fights with your manager
8:31
Have someone trusted from home whom you can tell what's going on. Go and see HR
8:36
They cannot force you out. Make sure you are also doing the work
8:40
What is it that is making this job toxic? I'm not putting in, you know, I'm not blaming the victim
8:46
But sometimes, you guys, you could be like me, I'm also lazy sometimes. Maybe I'm not doing the work as I've been trained
8:52
As for retraining, Have to move to another team if possible. But never quit the job
8:59
Remember guys, you are amazing. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Until next time
