Hello everyone and welcome to my channel
0:04
Today I'm going to be showing you how to make these super cute and fun crochet water balloons
0:11
These particular balloons I made during one of my live streams on Twitch
0:18
And lots of viewers were asking me, well how do they hold the water
0:23
Well they don't hold the water like a traditional water balloon would of course
0:27
You simply dunk them into a bucket of clean fresh water and throw
0:33
Please make sure you supervise your children and make sure they're not throwing these at the face
0:40
So to make your crochet water balloons you're going to need some Bernat blanket yarn
0:49
It's really soft and squishy and super absorbent and works great for these water balloons
0:56
You will need an 8mm hook, a darning needle, a stitch marker and a pair of scissors
1:12
So we're going to start off by making a slip knot on our hook like so
1:20
And then we're going to chain 3, 1, 2 and 3. We're then going to join to that first chain to form a ring
1:33
Now you can use the magic circle method if you prefer. Ok so next we're going to chain 1, this does not count as a stitch
1:43
And now we're going to put 8 single crochets into that ring
1:48
So hook goes into the centre, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through 2 loops, that's 1 single crochet made
1:56
Hook goes into the centre, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through 2, so that's 2, 3, 4, 5, 6
2:15
7 and 8. Now if you've worked over your tail as you've gone along you can give that a little tug and it will tighten up that centre a little bit
2:28
Now we're not going to join to our first single crochet, we're actually going to be working in a spiral
2:34
So we're going to start round 2 by putting 2 single crochet into our first stitch
2:42
Put a stitch marker into that first stitch to mark the start of the round
2:49
So we want 1 more single crochet in there. And I'm going to go ahead and put 2 single crochet into each stitch all the way around
3:02
So I will meet you back at the end of the round
3:09
So here we are at the end of round 2, we now have 16 single crochets
3:15
So we're going to remove the stitch marker and start round 3
3:20
We're going to put a single crochet into that first stitch, replace your marker
3:27
and we're going to continue with a single crochet into every stitch around
3:36
So here we are at the end of round 3, as you can see it's started to form a bowl shape
3:43
So we're going to continue and work 3 more rounds in exactly the same way, with a single crochet in every stitch
3:51
Make sure you move up your stitch marker at the beginning of the round
3:56
A single crochet in every stitch, and we're going to do this for 3 more rounds
4:04
So I'll meet you back when I've done that. And here we are at the end of round 6, your water balloon should look something like this
4:13
So now we're going to start making our decreases to get this nice neck shape for the balloon
4:19
So let's go ahead and remove our stitch marker, and we're going to single crochet 2 stitches together
4:26
So the hook goes into the stitch, pull up a loop, into the next stitch and pull up a loop
4:33
and then yarn over and pull through all of the loops. That's crochet 2 single crochets together
4:39
So we're going to pop our stitch marker back in that first stitch
4:43
and we're going to continue single crocheting 2 stitches together, all the way around
5:03
Here we are at the end of the round
5:27
and we're going to continue with the next round doing exactly the same
5:31
We're going to single crochet 2 stitches together all the way around
5:36
Let's make our first decrease here, and then replace our stitch marker
5:50
So this can be a bit fiddly this round, as you are going to end up with only 4 stitches
6:02
It can be a bit tricky getting the hook into those stitches
6:08
Here is the last decrease here. And there we go
6:19
That's the end of our last decrease round. So now we're going to start increasing again to get this cute shape at the top of our balloon
6:30
So we're going to remove our stitch marker, and we're going to put 2 single crochet into that first stitch
6:40
1, and 2. Don't forget to replace your stitch marker into the first stitch
6:51
And then we're going to go ahead and put 2 single crochets into every stitch around
7:00
Oops! Again, this can be a little tricky and fiddly
7:18
There we go, this is our last stitch. So you'll end up with 8 single crochet
7:26
And then to finish off, because we've been working in a spiral, we're going to remove that stitch marker and put a slip stitch into that first stitch
7:36
And there we go. That's your finished water balloon. So we're going to fasten off, you want to leave quite a long tail
7:46
We're going to use this tail to wrap around the neck, and just tighten it a bit to accentuate that shape
7:56
So fasten off. And then with a darning needle, I like to just finish off this stitch here first
8:20
And then you want to just sew the end in a little bit
8:26
Just put a couple of stitches inside, so that it doesn't pull that top end of the neck down once you wrap the yarn around
8:34
Then you're going to take your needle through to the front, or the back, whichever
8:42
And then you're going to wrap it around twice, around the neck
8:46
Now you want to put it fairly tightly, but not so tightly that you break the yarn
8:50
because this yarn is not as strong as some other yarns. So you've gone around twice, you're then going to go back through into the centre of your balloon
9:02
And then put another couple of stitches then, just to secure the end
9:07
And then you can put your needle through, and then out through the other side of the balloon
9:15
And then you can just trim that end off. And there's your finished water balloon
9:24
I'm sure your kids are going to love playing with these. So this is just a plain one-colour design
9:31
So this is just a plain one-colour design. I've also made these helix-striped balloons, so these will be coming up in the next video
