Why We Never Got To See A District 9 Sequel

Whenever a standalone science fiction film is a major success, fans start wondering if it will be turned into a franchise. Director Neil Blomkamp didn't ever think that his 2009 film District 9 could have a sequel until post-production, and even then, he said he wouldn't do it until he had a good idea for one.
