Sometimes, a studio will sign on for a sequel even before a movie is finished. After all, what could possibly go wrong to have to stop an upcoming Batman sequel in its tracks? However, studios often realize that their eyes are bigger than their stomachs, and they quickly cancel the sequel when they see how badly the previous film did with critics or at the box office (or because of the bat nipples).
