Movies based on real-life events have to change some things to fit the story, and they have occasionally made people quite angry about how they were portrayed. Obviously, when it's a movie like Spotlight, there are very serious issues being dealt with, and people feel like their character is under attack when they're portrayed as more dismissive of crimes than they actually were.
