When 70-year-old Bill Bryan underwent surgery, his doctors made a devastating error. Bill and his wife were on vacation when he experienced severe side pain that sent him to the hospital. Tests identified a ruptured cyst near his spleen, prompting the decision for surgery. Dr. Shaknovsky recommended a splenectomy, the removal of the spleen. However, during the procedure, Dr. Thomas Shaknovsky mistakenly removed Bill’s liver instead, leading to fatal blood loss.
