Chapter 3. The Rose of Sealus.
0:10
>> I'm back. It appears we haven't been
0:13
followed.
0:17
>> I have news, too. The tavern proprie
0:23
wanted posters. Seems we're wanted by
0:25
Argo for not only Balboa's murder, but
0:28
for masterminding the Sidonia rebellion.
0:31
Alas, they did an awful job capturing my
0:34
likeness. I am far more handsome than
0:37
depicted.
0:38
>> I'm sorry, but how long are you two
0:41
planning to follow me around? I mean, I
0:44
ran away and went on this whole journey
0:46
so I could find my mom, but you saved my
0:48
life, and I want to pay you back. Guess
0:51
I thought I'd stick around until I could
0:53
do that.
0:55
>> Don't be ridiculous. I didn't kill Bor
0:58
to save you. I killed him because that
1:01
was my plan. Understand?
1:05
>> Well, I find you all entirely
1:07
fascinating. So, I'll be sticking around
1:10
to see how this plays out.
1:12
>> You know this saying, curiosity killed
1:14
the cat. You are dangerous close to
1:17
being the cat here. You do realize we're
1:20
on wanted posters now. There's no
1:22
turning back. Not for Moo and not for
1:25
me. I know another saying. It goes,
1:28
"We're all in the same boat. So, you
1:30
might try thinking of us as allies.
1:32
Also, don't you think it's about time
1:34
the two of you told us who you are?"
1:38
>> Fine, why not?
1:40
>> Me, Lady, are you sure?
1:44
>> We used to live in Sidonia.
1:47
We were there when the invasion began.
1:55
>> I admit this is quite a surprise.
1:59
You're the daughter of the deposed
2:01
viceroy of Sidonia, which means you must
2:05
be Leila Donna.
2:07
>> If you know who she is, then I have a
2:09
good idea who you work for.
2:12
>> She's famous. the youngest person ever
2:14
to win the Rose of Sealless title at the
2:16
Temple of Kala. I'd heard that you died
2:19
during the Sidonia massacre. They said
2:21
you burned in the flames, but here you
2:24
are.
2:26
Kala would be overjoyed to hear this
2:28
news.
2:29
>> I'm a wanted criminal now. I could never
2:32
present myself before the goddess like
2:34
this.
2:35
>> You certainly could. She has missed you
2:38
dearly and for far too long.
2:41
After what happened, Barakar and I
2:45
escaped to the county of Ortil in the
2:47
kingdom of Argo. Father Madell took us
2:49
in and protected us. He was in charge of
2:53
one of the Dagda temple shrines there.
2:55
>> If memory serves, Father Madell was a
2:58
high priest in Dagda's temple. I'd heard
3:00
he went into hiding after he was accused
3:02
of some kind of scandal.
3:04
>> Yes, that's him. He was my father's best
3:08
friend from the days they lived in
3:10
Dagian. I spent my time there trying to
3:13
stay hidden and training with Bar. Only
3:16
one thing kept me going. The thought of
3:19
killing General Bertrand, the man who
3:22
murdered my father. Then one day, I
3:25
snuck into Grand Aragon, the capital of
3:28
Argo.
3:30
I didn't tell Father Medell. What I
3:32
discovered there nearly destroyed me.
3:36
Bertrand was already dead, executed for
3:39
treason. It was like the whole world
3:41
fell out from under my feet. Killing
3:44
that man had been everything to me.
3:47
After that, I had no reason to live.
3:51
I just felt so hollow. That's when
3:55
Father Mel began hinting that Sidonia
3:57
had been swept up into larger
3:58
conspiracies. He promised to reveal the
4:01
secrets he knew as soon as I was strong
4:03
enough to do something about them.
4:06
And then somehow 3 years passed.
4:19
You've grown so much stronger over these
4:21
past years. Leadonna, it's time I give
4:24
you this. You'll have to decide what you
4:27
do once you understand what I've written
4:30
there.
4:31
>> Father Medell, what is this? It is a
4:34
detailed list of names and crimes.
4:38
These are the people who deserve your
4:40
vengeance.
4:41
>> This is what you told me about years
4:45
ago.
4:46
>> It is. These are the secrets I promised
4:49
to you. Then I recorded all I know about
4:52
the conspiracies surrounding the Sidonia
4:54
massacre.
5:00
Father Medel, I I don't understand.
5:04
Why is your name at the top of this
5:06
list?
5:10
I testified before the divine sovereign
5:12
using false evidence given to me by the
5:15
people on that list. My testimony
5:17
painted GMO as corrupt and treasonous.
5:21
It undermined your father severely. And
5:24
the evidence I presented, it was the
5:26
excuse they needed to make a move on
5:28
Sidonia.
5:31
>> Father Medel, what are you?
5:34
>> If you believe nothing else, Lenana, you
5:36
must believe this.
5:45
I never wanted any of that to happen.
5:49
your father. I did not intend for him
5:53
to. They had taken my family hostage.
5:55
You see, I had no choice but to do what
5:59
they demanded. But in doing so, I
6:02
betrayed my best friend.
6:05
>> You
6:06
of all people, how could you? Do you
6:09
have any idea how much my father trusted
6:12
you? I would never ask you to
6:14
understand, but please believe me when I
6:17
say I've been racked by guilt day and
6:19
night ever since. So, I am revealing the
6:23
truth to you and entrusting you with
6:26
this list. In this way,
6:31
I hope to atone for these sins against
6:33
my dear friend, GMO.
6:35
Now, you have my confession and my list.
6:39
At last, I can take responsibility for
6:42
what I've done.
6:43
>> Father Mate, what do you mean?
6:52
>> What? What have you done?
6:54
>> Flames will soon engulf this place. You
6:57
must go now.
6:59
>> Why? Why are you doing this?
7:02
>> I will not move from here. This is where
7:05
we say goodbye. Leadonna,
7:08
I pray that you find happiness in this
7:10
life.
7:11
>> My lady, we can't stay here. We must go.
7:14
Hurry.
7:16
>> Father Miguel.
7:25
>> I see. I had no idea.
7:28
>> When the fire finally died, we found his
7:31
corpse in the ashes, burnt beyond
7:34
recognition. Father Mell had left me his
7:36
list. So I set out to take my revenge on
7:39
those he had named.
7:41
>> The Madell list is it.
7:44
>> You do realize that man is guilty of
7:46
some truly unforgivable sins.
7:48
>> Indeed. He never should have brought
7:51
those lies before the divine sovereign.
7:53
>> That's not the sin I mean. I'm talking
7:56
about that list he gave to Miss Lita.
7:58
You see, if it's true that Balboa's
8:00
faction was plotting to seize Sidonia,
8:03
they would have found a way to carry out
8:04
their plan with or without Father
8:06
Modell's testimony, if he'd failed to do
8:09
what they wanted, they'd simply have
8:11
found someone else to do their bidding.
8:13
One way or another, they'd have made
8:14
sure the Sidonia massacre happened. My
8:17
point is, I can't help but wonder if
8:20
Miss Lita would have been better off not
8:22
knowing about any of it.
8:24
>> You might be right about that. I can't
8:27
forgive Father Medell for everything
8:29
he's done, but I am grateful to him.
8:32
This list has kept me going. It's given
8:34
me a reason to live.
8:36
>> I find it strange that in all that time,
8:40
I never heard even a whisper that you
8:42
survived. If it's because the father had
8:44
you hidden at his shrine. I suppose that
8:47
makes sense. And now that I know who you
8:50
are, that must mean the vuea with you is
8:52
obsidian. It's the instrument once owned
8:55
by Cohen himself. The self-proclaimed
8:58
legendary bard.
9:00
>> Yes. House Coendia has safeguarded it
9:02
for generations. Ever since his death
9:04
when Cassite burned. It was the only
9:07
thing I was able to bring with me.
9:09
>> Um, I've been thinking.
9:12
I still want to help you, Lita. I mean,
9:15
I want to repay you for saving me, but
9:18
also if anyone ever did anything to my
9:21
mom, I'd hate them, too.
9:23
and I want to help you because I I like
9:26
you. Uh, okay.
9:30
What a strange thing to say. But I mean
9:33
it. I do.
9:35
>> There's nothing strange about it.
9:37
Affection can arise as suddenly and
9:39
unexpectedly as a gust of wind.
9:43
Now, since Miss Lita shared her secret
9:45
with us, it only seems fair that I
9:48
reveal my identity as well.
9:52
Sraco is my alias. My true name is
9:56
Syracusio.
10:10
I am a Vulcan serving Kala's temple. My
10:13
Vulcan name is Syracusio of the Silver
10:16
Hail.
10:24
I have been secretly conducting an
10:26
investigation into the kingdom of Argo
10:28
at the goddess Kala's behest.
10:31
>> There it is, just as I thought.
10:34
>> Miss Lita, allow me to make clear my
10:37
promise. You have my full cooperation.
10:42
I am here to help you.
10:43
>> Can a Temple Vulcan really afford to
10:46
help a murderer? Please understand, my
10:49
Lady Kala cares for you very much. I can
10:52
assure you that my actions from here on
10:55
are in concert with her wishes.
10:57
>> I appreciate that, but I feel like we've
11:00
hit a dead end when it comes to Lechner.
11:03
>> It's true. We didn't get even a scrap of
11:06
information out of Baloa.
11:08
>> Balboa set a trap at the bottom of the
11:10
mine and was lying in wait for you. Does
11:13
that mean BOA had an a accomplice? Maybe
11:19
someone who was watching us?
11:21
>> That's exactly what it means. Moo. Very
11:23
good. You catch on quickly. Let's not
11:26
forget the wanted posters. It's going to
11:29
be difficult to move about freely from
11:31
now on. Miss Lita, if you don't mind my
11:34
asking, what do you think of heading to
11:36
Kala's temple for a spell? I really do
11:39
think you should meet with my lady. I'm
11:42
certain she'll offer us some assistance.
