Traditional King Cake
History
King Cake, a festive and colorful dessert, has deep roots in the celebration of Epiphany, also known as Twelfth Night, which marks the visit of the Magi to the baby Jesus. Originating in France and Spain, King Cake was brought to the United States, particularly to Louisiana, by settlers. It has since become synonymous with Mardi Gras celebrations in New Orleans. Traditionally, a small baby figurine is hidden inside the cake, and the person who finds it is tasked with hosting the next party or providing the next cake.
