Sweetened Condensed Milk Recipe
Introduction
Sweetened condensed milk is a rich, creamy ingredient often used in desserts, beverages, and even some savory dishes. Making it at home is surprisingly simple and can be a great alternative to store-bought versions. With just two main ingredients, you can create a velvety, sweet concoction that enhances your favorite recipes. This homemade version has no preservatives and allows you to control the sweetness level, making it perfect for those who prefer a less sugary option.
Ingredients
2 cups whole milk (or any milk of your choice)
1 cup granulated sugar
2 tablespoons unsalted butter (optional, for extra richness)
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional, for added flavor)
Instructions
Combine Ingredients: In a medium-sized saucepan, combine the milk and sugar. If using butter, add it now as well. Stir the mixture to dissolve the sugar.
Heat and Simmer: Place the saucepan over medium heat. Stir occasionally until the sugar is completely dissolved and the mixture begins to heat up. Once it starts to steam, lower the heat to a gentle simmer.
Simmer Until Thickened: Allow the mixture to simmer for about 30-40 minutes, stirring frequently. You’ll notice it reducing and thickening. The key is to simmer slowly to avoid curdling the milk.
