Craft your own rustic Sourdough Bread with this step-by-step guide. This recipe yields a beautifully crusty loaf with a chewy crumb, perfect for sandwiches, toasts, or just enjoying on its own with a spread of butter.
Ingredients:
1 cup (240g) active sourdough starter
1 1/2 cups (360g) warm water (80°F to 85°F)
4 cups (480g) bread flour
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
Instructions:
Prepare the Dough:
In a large mixing bowl, combine the active sourdough starter and warm water. Mix until the starter is fully dissolved.
Add the bread flour to the bowl and mix until a rough dough forms. Cover the bowl with a damp cloth and let it rest for 30 minutes (autolyse process).
Knead the Dough:
After the dough has rested, sprinkle the salt over the dough.
Knead the dough by stretching and folding it over itself for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. You can also use a stand mixer with a dough hook on low speed.
