Nutritious Sweet Potato and Carrot Puree
Introduction
This sweet potato and carrot puree is an excellent choice for introducing solid foods to your baby. Both sweet potatoes and carrots are rich in essential vitamins and minerals, making this puree a nutritious and tasty option. The natural sweetness of the vegetables makes this puree appealing to infants and helps develop their palate for healthy foods.
Ingredients
1 large sweet potato, peeled and chopped
2 medium carrots, peeled and chopped
1 tablespoon unsalted butter (optional)
1/4 cup water or low-sodium vegetable broth
A pinch of ground cinnamon (optional)
Instructions
Prepare Vegetables: Peel and chop the sweet potato and carrots into small, uniform pieces to ensure even cooking.
Cook Vegetables: Place the sweet potato and carrots in a steamer basket over boiling water. Cover and steam for 15-20 minutes, or until the vegetables are tender and easily pierced with a fork.
Blend Puree: Transfer the cooked vegetables to a blender or food processor. Add the water or vegetable broth and blend until smooth. For a creamier texture, you can add a tablespoon of unsalted butter at this stage. If using, add a pinch of ground cinnamon for extra flavor.
Cool and Serve: Allow the puree to cool to a safe temperature before serving. Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or freeze in individual portions for up to 3 months.
Cooking Tips
Check Texture: Ensure the puree is smooth and free of lumps for easy swallowing. You can adjust the consistency by adding more water or broth.
Variety: To introduce new flavors, consider adding a small amount of finely minced herbs like basil or parsley, but only after your baby has been introduced to these ingredients separately.
