Ingredients:

๐ฅ 2 cups whole milk
๐ฅ 1 cup heavy cream
๐ฅ 1/2 cup granulated sugar
๐ฅ 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
๐ฅ 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg, plus extra for garnish
๐ฅ Optional: 1/2 cup rum, brandy, or bourbon (for spiked Eggnog)

Instructions:
1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs and granulated sugar until pale and frothy.
2. In a saucepan, heat the whole milk and heavy cream over medium heat until just simmering. Do not let it boil.
3. Slowly pour the hot milk mixture into the egg mixture, whisking constantly to temper the eggs and prevent them from scrambling.
4. Return the combined mixture to the saucepan and cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens slightly and coats the back of a spoon. This should take about 5-7 minutes. Do not let it boil.
