Classic Charoset Recipe
Introduction: Charoset is a traditional Jewish dish served during Passover, symbolizing the mortar used by the Israelites during their slavery in Egypt. This sweet and nutty mixture varies by region, but it always features a combination of fruit and nuts. This recipe captures the essence of classic charoset with a blend of apples, nuts, and spices. It’s perfect as a side dish for your Passover Seder or as a delicious topping for matzo.
Ingredients:
3 medium apples, peeled, cored, and finely chopped
1 cup walnuts, finely chopped
1/2 cup almonds, finely chopped
1/2 cup sweet red wine (or grape juice)
1/4 cup honey
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground cloves
1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
1 tbsp lemon juice (optional, to prevent browning)
Instructions:
Prepare the Apples: Peel, core, and finely chop the apples. Place them in a large mixing bowl and sprinkle with lemon juice if using. This helps prevent browning and keeps the apples fresh.
