Champurrado Recipe
Introduction:
Champurrado is a traditional Mexican chocolate-based atole, a warm and thick beverage that is especially popular during the winter months and festive holidays like Día de los Muertos and Christmas. This comforting drink is rich, slightly spiced, and perfectly sweetened, making it an ideal treat to warm you up on chilly days. Made from masa harina, Mexican chocolate, cinnamon, and milk, Champurrado is a must-try for anyone who enjoys a hearty, flavorful drink with a touch of history.
Ingredients:
4 cups whole milk (or water for a lighter version)
2 cups water
1/2 cup masa harina (corn flour)
1 tablet (3.3 oz) Mexican chocolate (such as Abuelita or Ibarra), chopped
1/2 cup piloncillo (or brown sugar)
1 cinnamon stick
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
A pinch of salt
Instructions:
Prepare the Masa Harina: In a medium bowl, mix the masa harina with 2 cups of water. Stir until the masa harina is fully dissolved and no lumps remain. Set aside.
