Introduction: Apple turnovers are a delightful treat, perfect for breakfast, brunch, or a sweet snack. This recipe offers a simple yet delicious way to enjoy flaky pastry filled with spiced apple goodness. With minimal ingredients, you can whip these up easily for a homemade touch that rivals any bakery.
Ingredients:
1 sheet of puff pastry (thawed)
1 large apple (peeled, cored, and diced)
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 tablespoon unsalted butter (diced)
1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)
1 tablespoon coarse sugar (optional, for sprinkling)
Instructions:
Prepare the Filling: In a medium saucepan, combine the diced apple, granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, and lemon juice. Cook over medium heat until the apples are tender and the mixture is thickened, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in the diced butter. Allow the filling to cool.
Prepare the Pastry: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). On a lightly floured surface, roll out the puff pastry sheet. Cut the pastry into 4 squares or rectangles, depending on your preferred size for turnovers.
