Agua Fresca Recipe
Introduction: Agua fresca is a refreshing Mexican beverage made from fruits, grains, seeds, or flowers blended with water and sweetened to taste. It's perfect for quenching thirst on a hot day and can be easily customized with your favorite flavors. This simple recipe focuses on a classic agua fresca made with fresh fruit, offering a light and fruity drink that's both hydrating and delicious.
Ingredients:
4 cups of water
2 cups of fresh fruit (e.g., watermelon, cantaloupe, or mango), chopped
1/4 cup of sugar (adjust to taste)
1 tablespoon of lime juice (optional)
Ice cubes (for serving)
Instructions:
Prepare the Fruit: Wash and chop the fruit into small pieces. If using a melon, remove the seeds and rind before chopping.
Blend: In a blender, combine the chopped fruit and 2 cups of water. Blend until smooth.
Strain (Optional): For a smoother texture, strain the blended mixture through a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a large pitcher. This step is optional and depends on your preference for pulp.
Sweeten: Stir in the sugar until completely dissolved. Taste and adjust the sweetness if needed. For an extra tangy flavor, add the lime juice and mix well.
Add Remaining Water: Pour in the remaining 2 cups of water and stir to combine. Adjust the water amount to reach your desired strength of flavor.
Chill: Refrigerate the agua fresca for at least 1 hour to chill. Serve over ice cubes for a refreshing drink.
