on JackSucksAtGeography we upload a range of easy to watch geography related games. We mainly play Sporcle games like "naming all 197 countries". I successfully learned all 197 countries and plan to learn more Geography trivia. On this channel I also play Geoguessr. This is a game that uses Google Street View to drop you in a random location and you have to work out exactly where you are on the worldwide map. Geoguessr was created in 2013. If you want to see more from Jack he uploads different content to many other Youtube channels, linked above!

Welcome to the Jackson's geography Christmas special. That's right. There's light Christmas music in the background and the guy makes some snowfall
0:07
There we go. Brr very chilly. In today's Christmas video. We're gonna be learning about Christmas Island
0:11
Here's a nice picture of Christmas Island. Here's the Christmas Island flag fun fact about Christmas Island
0:16
It has nothing to do with Christmas Basically, the only reason it's called Christmas Island is because in 1643 a fella called William sailed past it on Christmas Day
0:25
So he named it Christmas Island because it was Christmas Day challenge one for me
0:29
Can I find Christmas Island on a map now apparently it is an Australian territory
0:34
So it's gonna be near Australia, but it's also yeah Yeah, I was about to say it's actually nearer to Asia than it is to Australia
0:41
So we found a look at that we zoom on in and there's Christmas Island very nice
0:45
So Christmas Island is famous for its Christmas Island red crabs which look just like this now could be mistaken
0:52
But I think that the very famous crab rave song is kind of set slash inspired by the Christmas Island crabs
0:58
Because you know, it's a nice beach. The crabs are red. I don't want to get copyright claim, but I'll listen for a second
1:06
That's all we get that's all we can get Okay, we can hopefully learn a bit more as this video goes
1:11
But we're gonna try the Christmas Island GeoGuessing map and we're gonna see how we get on with basic settings
1:16
So we've landed in an urban area. We can see the ocean down there now. It does have about
1:21
1500 residents, so there's gonna be you know a fair amount of houses knocking about oh here. We are we're in
1:26
Silver City. I wonder if we can find Silver City on the map. So apparently most of the population live up in the north
1:32
It's got a little airport. We could go to Christmas Island. Do not be delightful
1:36
God Silver City's got to be around here somewhere. Let's see if we can get as close to 5,000 points as possible
1:42
All right, the North's that way and the oceans in the northwest my brain can't do this
1:46
That means that we're maybe around here somewhere then is that right? Oh look at that. There's a thing called Crab Bridge
1:51
I'm gonna have to Google Crab Bridge. I want to see some pictures of crabs, please Oh, it's a bridge for the crabs. Oh, this is the greatest thing I've ever seen so they can get across the road safely
2:01
That's adorable Do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do But we are not at Crab Bridge. We're at Silver City, which I've annoyingly not spotted yet. God
2:10
I want to go to see Crab Bridge. Oh Silver City Road, right? We might have found it then in that case
2:14
So we've got what's that? What's that? Can we see that? Arenger, okay. Oh my god, there's Arenger. So that means that we if we return to start that means we're like about here
2:23
Is that right? Guess. Yes! 5,000 points. Go on. Okay, put me near Crab Bridge, please. We're not near Crab Bridge
2:31
Alright, this looks a little bit trickier to me because we're not immediately next to any signs
2:35
We do have a junction, which is nice. We'll see how far we can go down here. But, I mean, we might just have to guess somewhere if we don't find anything. Hang on, hang on
2:42
Dolly Beach and Greta Beach are down that way, which is in the southwest
2:47
Dolly Beach and Greta Beach. Where's, there's Dolly Beach, there's Greta Beach. So it's probably along this road then
2:52
Or it could be this road. It 200 meters So maybe it is around here That to turn left So potentially that means we on this road then because it a very straight road well let just go down the path and see if we can
3:03
find the signs for dolly and greta beach take care when driving okay so we go down there to get to
3:08
the beach oh my god we can go down keep your eye out for crabs keep your eye out for blue footed
3:13
boobies because apparently you see a lot of them on this island as well they're a type of birds just
3:17
in case you thought they were anything else and they're absolutely incredible just look how
3:21
incredible and beautiful and funny looking these animals are look at his face so yeah you get them
3:27
on a christmas island apparently apparently the red footed boobies even more popular look at the
3:31
beaks on the red footed boobies that's incredible look at that but anyway we need to get to the
3:35
beach so we can try and work out where we are because you know i'd be nice to get 5 000 points
3:40
it doesn't feel like this is the right way are there crabs on that there might be crabs on that
3:43
to be honest i'm quite impressed that we can even travel down here i'm quite hyped about where it's
3:47
It's gonna go right. I think we must be going on foot because you can see we're moving very very slowly all of a sudden
3:53
So the google car man must have got out and had to like walk the rest of the way
3:56
Which i'm sure he's thrilled about oh my god. We found a sign bretta beach dolly beach, right
4:00
We must be close. I'm not gonna lie. It's i've been on this road a while
4:05
If we get there and I can't go any further because the google car couldn't get on the stand
4:09
I am gonna be miffed. I will be so annoyed. Wait, I've gotten lost. Oh god
4:13
I don't know which way i've been going. What if i'm going the wrong way now? What if I'm going back the way I came? Oh my god, I think I might be going the way I came. Okay, right. We're gonna give up, okay
4:22
We're gonna assume the start location was probably about there. Let's guess. Yes, it was 600 yards further down
4:27
Apparently it was right on this junction, which is annoying I think I was paying so much attention to the left that I wasn't looking at this junction on the right
4:34
Which would have been a dead giveaway as to exactly where we were right
4:38
Let's get on Google Maps ourselves and see if we can find that Greta Beach see what we were heading towards
4:44
Oh, that looks cool. Oh, look at that. It's got a cool staircase down to it
4:48
It's a nice little beach. I like it. Oh, we can actually move around as well. Can't see any crabs
4:53
Where are the crabs any red crabs any boobies anywhere? There is a someone's shoe though. So that's nice
4:58
Okay, we're at a sign to begin with we have got phosphate hill cemetery and golf course lookout
5:04
Okay, and then can we go down there? No, we can't but can we find the golf course in the cemetery? Oh golf course lookout
5:11
That's about there. Where's the cemetery? It says phosphate hill. So we must be in the right track christmas island community hall
5:17
That's church. Is there a cemetery with it? Don't think so, but I think we're on the right spot
5:21
So quarry road there's an entrance to quarry road there and there's another entrance to quarry road here as well
5:26
Lily beach road that looks like where we maybe are doesn't it? I think it is I reckon so yeah, do you know what
5:32
I'm feeling so confident. I might just go for it already. Let's guess. Let's guess. Look at us go
5:37
Ah, not quite a perfect score 31 yards away. So we have to be really really precise if we do want perfect scores
5:43
Okay, we're on another blank road, but I'm gonna be honest. I need to see some crabs
5:47
I want to try and find a crab so we gonna bail out of Google Maps I gonna see are there any fossil spheres because that gonna increase our chances of finding a crab surely What this can we land in the ocean Where does that take Oh my god we on a boat
6:01
I tell you what it's like my name's William and the year is 1643 look at me go
6:05
Well, look that could be a red or blue foot booby up there. Probably not though. It's probably a seagull
6:11
Let's be honest. Oh here we go photosphere photosphere. Maybe it'll be a cool animal. Oh, it isn't
6:15
It's just a very cool looking beach does look really really epic to be fair. Show me another one. Show me another one
6:19
Here we go. Here we go. Oh, another cool beach. I like it. Dolly Beach. Let's go to Dolly Beach
6:24
We've only been to Greta Beach so far. Oh, we got another flip-flop. That's exciting
6:28
As if we can walk around though. Look at that. Google Street View man was willing to get his feet wet and I respect that
6:33
That's a bit concerning. Does that look like a Jolly Roger? You know, like a Skull and Crossbones to anyone else
6:38
Do you think that's just coincidence or is that on purpose? Right. Heartbreakingly, it doesn't look like we can quite get to Crab Bridge from Google Street View
6:46
Like this is the closest it looks we can get. I want to go to Crab Bridge. It's just, oh, there it is
6:50
There's the bridge. Why can't we get any closer? Oh my God. Oh my God. Yes
6:54
Yes, we're getting closer. We're getting so close to Crab Bridge. We're going to get there. We might actually see some crabs
6:59
We're on Crab Bridge. I can't see any, any crabs at all. I put like five crabs there, will you
7:05
Excellent. Thank you. All right. We do need to play this round four. This is round four to five
7:10
And let's have a little cycle down. If we spot any nature, that'd be delightful
7:14
I know that I could just google pictures of boobies anytime I want but I want to discover them on my own
7:19
You know, I'll just be stumbling down this road and I want to just see a little red crab down there on the side Christmas Island National Park
7:24
We've got the dales being the closest thing. Okay, so where's the dales the dales is there
7:30
And then the blowholes is reasonably nearby, but you can see they're separated quite a bit
7:34
So I guess that suggests that we're probably like in the middle of those two
7:38
Let's say Christmas Island National Park there. So maybe we're like around this area. All right
7:43
I'm gonna keep going up here. Oh, we've got another sign. We've got another sign. Is it the official entrance to the national park
7:48
It is so I can't see where the national park starts and finishes on here because it's just all green
7:54
But I assume we're near the sign I'm gonna keep going a little bit this way
7:58
And then I think i'm gonna go return to start and delve deeper into the national park because that's where we're hopefully
8:03
Maybe gonna see a little bit more nature in fact, I might just do that right now to be honest return to start
8:08
Oh god, I don't remember which way it was Please be a sign that says crabs crossing. Oh my god, I think it is. Oh, I can't get a good angle on it
8:15
Maybe the other side it says slow down and drive around So they're saying if you see a red crab on the road don't drive over it and smash its skull in drive around it
8:22
Don't be shy. That's nice to hear. That's great. We got a cool bird. That could be a red or blue footed booby
8:28
It's the right kind of shape. That's good. I'll take that. I'll take that Oh, here we go. Got another sign pink house research station. Well, that'll probably oh there it is pink house research station
8:38
So which road do you reckon we're on going south takes us to pink house research station annoyingly
8:43
There's a lot of routes into pink house research station. Can we get down a pink house research station
8:47
Oh we can so if it close by we be able to work out the connecting road But you know what I reckon it probably not close by at all Oh it looks cool though Yes I like these trees This looks epic Oh my God we were at a crossroads
8:59
We've hit a crossroads. Do we see any crossroads on the way to the research station
9:03
We kind of do, you know. Do you know what? I am feeling that I go there
9:07
No, I don't think that's right. I'm going to go here. No, I don't think that's right either. I'm going to go here
9:12
Yes, guess. Should have gone up where I was. All right, we're three miles away
9:17
God, this island's small. If that's three miles and here we are for the final round and we've not immediately spawned in surrounded by crabs
9:25
Which seems odd to me, but I won't question it We do have no pedestrians or bicycles beyond this point during hours of darkness
9:32
Bloody hell that sounds scary. So we're in a nice urban area to finish off So we're obviously kind of up in the north of the island here specifically. It's called drum site
9:40
Go on show me drum site drum site and settlement we need to find I have located drum site park
9:46
Can we find settlement then? No, we can't we're two miles from drum site though, which is interesting
9:50
So does that mean we're like further up here? We do have a bus stop there. So we'll keep that in mind old technical school
9:56
Oh, that's gonna help us out. That's gonna get us a perfect score right there christmas island district high school
10:01
It's not all technical. Is it the same thing? I mean, it could be the same thing. Do we have a bus stop nearby
10:06
Don't see one. Is this the school here? I don't think it is is it can I go and see the school
10:10
Oh my god, I can't all right. We're at the school. Oh, we can get right the way around it Okay, I don't think it matches up
10:16
Shire of Christmas Island, Community Hall and Senior Center. Where are all of these places
10:22
The ocean's there. I've only just noticed the ocean on the other side of these apartment buildings
10:26
And that's northwest. So it's like up here somewhere. I don't think this is matching up, is it
10:32
Bloody isn't. Where is everything on this map? Do you know what? Nothing feels like it's quite lining up to me
10:37
So what I'm going to do is I am going to shove myself like there
10:41
and hope that maybe the Google Street View is just outdated and some things have changed their names
10:46
I'm not feeling super confident on it. We'll go there, though. We'll see what happens. Guess. Oh, my God, we got a badge, which is good
10:52
And we were, yeah, not really in the right place at all. It was all the way up here
10:56
Community Island Christmas Hall. Fair enough. Where's the school, then? The school's not on the map. I can't see it anywhere
11:01
And that's what truly breaks my heart. But in the end, we did manage to get..
11:05
Oh, look at all our badges that we're getting. We actually get 20,000 points, which, you know, that's all right, I suppose
11:10
But more importantly, it's time to YouTube Christmas Island crabs because I need to see some please. Oh my god
11:15
45 million crabs March. Oh look at them everywhere. That's amazing. That is absolutely epic. Hey, hey, hey. Oh my god. Oh my god
11:22
It's blue for boobies It is as well A nesting booby what that tell you a nesting booby well, that's made my day really all right
11:34
I'm gonna end this video off there. Hey, make sure you subscribe because when Easter comes around you bet
11:39
We'll be doing a video about Easter Island even though it's actually got nothing to do with Easter But it's where these giant statues are from thanks so much for watching
11:45
I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas. I will see you all later
