How many UK cities can I name? I genuinely have no idea, so today we're going to find out with this quiz
0:06
Apparently there are 76 cities, which is actually way less than I thought
0:09
There's nearly 50 UK counties, so the fact that there's just over one per county is actually quite low
0:16
I was expecting it to be like well over 100, so we'll see how far we can get really
0:20
Also, you'll see this little picture of the UK map. We have edited that in. I'm going to be using that as reference to my second monitor, and then maybe in future we could try it blind
0:28
But I feel like for my very first attempt, I'd like to be able to visualize a blank map because I think it'll help quite a bit
0:33
So we're going to change to untimed. And now let's give it a go
0:37
So first one I'm doing, we're going with Durham. That is the closest city to where I grew up
0:42
And then on a similar line, we've got Newcastle. Then let's do some other big ones
0:47
London, Chester, Leeds, Manchester, Sheffield. There you go. And then we're going to do..
0:55
Is Berwick a city? Berwick. Let's find out. It isn't. It's not Berwick-upon-Tweed
0:59
Do I have to put the full name? Okay, it's not a city. I don't know why seven in I tried Berwick-upon-Tweed
1:05
I feel silly now. Let's keep going. Let's do Glasgow and let's do Edinburgh
1:10
There you go. Dunfermline. Is that a city in Scotland? Dunfermline. Oh, yes
1:17
There's not that many, look, in the whole of Scotland. And then Wales. I know Banger
1:21
Let's try that. Banger. There you go. And Cardiff. Oh, Banger's a freebie because there's actually one in Northern Ireland as well
1:27
Okay, so we've done 13 of 76, which, you know, that's not bad, I guess
1:32
But we are kind of only just getting started. So Bradford, that should count
1:37
Yep. I think Aberfrau is probably going to be one, which is in Wales, but I have no hope of spelling it
1:42
Should we try Aber... Okay, I can't do it. So moving on from there, we're going to get a bit more obscure
1:53
I know that Rippon is... I used to live near Ripon and that's like, you would not expect it to be a city because it's kind of, it's a small town
2:00
But for some reason it is. And same with Doncaster. I know that Doncaster was made a city with the, like, Queen's Jubilee
2:06
So that's 16 of 76, which is barely any. But I'm going to actually look at my little blank map now to get some inspiration
2:13
So, see, I can think of lots of places, but them actually being cities, I don't know
2:18
So Southampton, let's try it. Yep, and Portsmouth. Let's go with that
2:23
There you go. And Plymouth. Hmm. Devon is a county. Didn't mean that. Okay. Uh, from there we'll do
2:32
is Galway going to be one? Oh, it isn't. This is so interesting. Genuinely, I have no idea. Like
2:36
am I about done here or can I come up with way more? So cities specifically. So we could have
2:42
Lincoln, right? Yep. And Leicester? Leicester? I don't know how you spell it. Leicester? Is it
2:49
Like that, no, wait, Leicester, hmm. So I can't spell that, but I think a smart thing to do
2:54
is to go through county names because, you know, county Durham, Durham, Lincolnshire, Lincoln
3:00
So there gonna be lots of clues there So is there you know like Oxford and Cambridge There you go that a couple extras So then is Warwick going to be one Let find out It isn Bath that definitely be one
3:13
Let's go with that. And Coventry? Mm, yeah. Canterbury? Canter, canter, can't, canterbury
3:21
No, can't, canterbury. I'm from the north. I don't know how to spell any of these really common places
3:28
Canterbury. Yeah, there you go. We got that. I haven't even done liverpool yet
3:32
Uh blackpool is that gonna be one blackpool's not a city. All right, lancaster's definitely gonna be one
3:38
All right, that's 27 of 76. So it's around a third. It's over a third. Actually. It's nearly half
3:43
Let's get to at least half before I start struggling. Let's look at our little map again
3:47
Come on. Come on. There's gonna be so many like weird little obscure ones
3:53
I suppose should I also be going alphabetically so there's another b that i've missed
3:57
Is Darby one? Let's try it. It is. So there's no A's, which is interesting, but there is B's
4:05
Let's do some more C's because I can't get any B's. And there's a lot of C's, it turns out
4:13
Carlisle. Carlisle. If I can spell it. Yes, I can spell it. There you go
4:18
Keswick? Is that going to be one? No. So many towns, you know, like how many towns are in the
4:23
Let's find out there's over a thousand so you can see why I'm constantly getting towns mixed up with cities
4:28
But I'm actually shocked by how few cities there are I just tried Kent don't look at that so obviously the city of London, but what's what's around the city of London
4:39
I don't know. It's actually gotten difficult already Northern Ireland. Have I not done Belfast yet? There we go Portsmouth Plymouth
4:50
Hmm Okay, I was getting a delivery from the door, but while I was there, I remembered Gateshead
4:57
Oh, it's not one. Look around. Look at that map and let things come to you
5:05
I would love to get Leicester. Surely I can work out how Leicester is spelled. Leicester..
5:10
It's like so close. I really want to Google it. Oh, we got it
5:14
Okay, there's another place in Scotland that I'm trying to remember, and I think it does begin with a D
5:19
It's like drumlin' or something, and it isn't drumlin', but it's Dundee. That's what I'm trying to think of
5:24
Yes, there you go. Okay, we are nearly halfway there. There's so many
5:29
Look at all of these, all of these S's. So we've got A, B, C, D, S, T, U, T
5:36
Wait, Saint David's. Yes. I don't know where I pulled that out of
5:42
Any other W's? Worcester. Worcester. Yes. Is Buckingham a one or is it just Buckinghamshire
5:50
Buckingham. No, it's not. I'm trying to think of like places that I've driven to and see if anything comes into... Hull
5:56
Hull. Okay. Oh, it's actually called Kingston upon Hull. Brighton. That's got to be one, right
6:00
Yep, there you go. Look at that map, Jack. Look at that map
6:04
So I'm not cheating, by the way. I'm just looking at the same map that you've been looking at. Thinking thinking thinking thinking Shorpe Is that going to be one Let see No it not wait wait wait I just got another one I just come back from there bristol Okay good nice
6:20
So we're over halfway officially right? No, I need one more still. Well when I was on the train to bristol. I went via
6:27
London king's cross. It was a weird route. I don't know why grantham. Do you happen to be no? Okay, but then on the way
6:33
I think we went through Surrey no Aberdeen! Aber- wait, Aber- is Aberdeen not one? Of course it is, this is just alphabetical for
6:44
England. Mmm, yes, yes, yes. Okay, we've officially gotten half of the UK cities, which I guess is
6:50
okay for something that I've not practiced, this is just based on live experience, but I know that
6:54
some of you out there will be screaming so many really obvious ones right now, and I think I'm
6:58
gonna keep trying for a little bit longer. Hmm, think, think, think, think, think. Are there any
7:05
cities in Cornwall area. Yes, there is. I've been to one of them. Ah, the main one that you go to
7:14
if you visit Cornwall or Devon or those sort of places. What's it called? I can't remember. I
7:20
cannot remember. Okay, let's keep looking at the map and seeing if anything else comes to mind
7:26
Birmingham. Birmingham. That'll be this little fella, right? There it is. Yes. Nice. Okay, let's get to 40. We can do this. We need another C
7:36
We need lots of D's and then there's big gap between S and W. So who knows what could come up there? Torquay
7:42
Is that is that a place? What would be nice if I could see all of these locations popping up on the map
7:48
It'd be quite interesting to see how like my knowledge is spread or if it's all very much northerly
7:52
Because obviously if you haven't lived near ripon and doncaster like I have you just wouldn't name those
7:57
But then I'm gonna miss ones that other people consider really really obvious at the same time. Uh, is Anik one
8:06
Let's try it. No, it's not. Okay. Hmm Okay, I was in the Lake District and it was really nice
8:12
But there was one place we went to that was like a more of a big town and it was horrible. What was that place called? Have I any idea? I
8:21
Can't remember. I cannot remember Uh, Macclesfield. Is that one? Macclesfield. No, it's not. Newcastle. Newby. New Haven
8:34
Southampton. South. No. See, I'm worried that I've, like, missed one of the obvious
8:39
northerly places, like Sheffield, Liverpool, all those kind of places. I don't think so, right
8:45
I'm sure I will have. Trying to think now, like, where are people I know from
8:49
Hmm. Everyone I know is from these obscure northerly towns. St. Ives? Is that one? St. Ives? No
8:56
Chizik? Nope. Okay. Worth a go, though. Cheadle? Nope. Okay. Essex? Not Essex, but Exeter
9:08
Is that a place? Nope. Or if it is, that's not how you spell it
9:13
Oh literally the county that I currently living in Nottingham there you go What does Nottingham border I need to work through counties better because that gonna help all right we got york oh my god i haven even got york that crazy okay well at least we now officially properly over halfway how did i not get
9:29
york that's actually outrageous for me so we've got yorkshire york yeah durham county durham uh
9:34
tyne and we in newcastle if you can name the major city in every county then i think that's gonna
9:39
really help out. I've officially named 41 out of 76, so I got over half of them, which, you know
9:45
is okay, but what I'm going to do now is I'm going to have a look at UK county map and see if that
9:51
gives me any extras that I can, like, trigger my brain, but our official unhelpful score is 41
9:56
All right, I've got this map up, which you can see now. Now, what I said at the start, just
10:00
realize isn't strictly true. I said there was about 50 UK counties. I meant there was about 50
10:05
English counties. But anyway, we've got Gloucestershire, so let's try Gloucester. Yeah, there you go. Ooh, then there's a Hampshire, which makes me think of North Hampton
10:18
Is that a place? No, it isn't actually. Okay. Bedford. Is that going to be one? It isn't. Do
10:22
know what? The counties isn't actually as helpful as I thought. Monmouth. Is that one then? Oh
10:26
what? Pembroke. Is Pembroke one? No, it isn't. Yeah, this is actually really unhelpful. I think
10:31
I've already gotten the obvious ones okay well in that case it might be time to just give up so we
10:36
can get the answers so we managed to get 41 and then I've squeezed in one extra after looking at
10:40
counties which really didn't help that much I'm sure there'll be loads that I've not heard of but I bet there's also some incredibly obvious ones that people have been screaming for me so let's
10:48
give up and find out okay so working down we've got Chelmsford I wouldn't have thought of that
10:53
Chichester Colchester no so far ah Exeter so I did think of that one but I just spelled it wrong
11:00
I was trying to shove a C in there. Halford, Hereford, I don't really know how you pronounce that
11:04
but I would not have got it. Litchfield, no. Milton Keynes, I did try to think of that place
11:09
because it just came into mind, but I couldn't. Norwich, mmm, Peterborough
11:14
Yeah, I should have maybe got that. Preston, Salford, Salisbury. They're places I'm not particularly familiar with
11:19
Southend on the Sea, St. Albans. Stalk-on-Trent, Stalk-on-Trent. I wish I'd got Stalk-on-Trent
11:25
See, that's another place you would not think is a city. Sunderland is possibly the worst one
11:30
that I didn't get because I grew up quite close to Sunderland. Truro is the place towards Cornwall
11:36
that I was trying to think of, I think. Wakefield, Wells, Westminster, Winchester, Wolverhampton
11:42
So I tried like Northerhampton, didn't I? I was getting obviously mixed up there. Inverness
11:47
I should have got. Perth, Stirling's quite difficult. Amar, I've never heard of. Lisbon
11:52
Londonderry. I have seen that on a few maps, but no, it would not have come to me. Newry
11:57
and then in Wales, Newport. Mmm. And then there's another saint, which is St. Asperth
12:02
Swansea and Wrexham. Mmm. Okay, so I have heard of most of the places that I didn't get
12:07
but I'm not particularly shocked that I didn't get them. It's only really Sunderland that I probably should have managed to get
12:13
Okay, that was actually quite interesting. There you go. Should I try and learn all of the cities
12:17
I don't think it would take too long to actually lock them in, to be fair. But for now, we are going to end off this video
12:22
